Att: SMU FB Lettermen of Hayden Fry Era !

Postby MeanGreenGem » Mon Aug 18, 2003 1:23 pm

UNT is honoring Coach Hayden Fry at half time of the UNT/Baylor game, 7:05 PM, Saturday, September 6'th at ol' Fouts Field.

Of course all 3 of our schools have a special nostalgic place in our hearts for Hayden Fry. Fry attended Baylor and was a standout QB for the Bears plus SMU and Coach Fry played a most historic role with the integration of the SWC with Jerry Levias as you certainly all know the history and significance of that.

On your open date of September 6'th, please do accept this as an official invite from the Mean Green Nation to the entire SMU Nation to feel more than welcome to come out for this special event...BUT, an even more special invite specifically to all of you SMU Mustangs/SMU Lettermen who played for Coach Fry while on the Hilltop.

As you all would know from reading PonyFans.com, Fry is being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame this Fall. This is a time for all of us to honor a man that means different things to all of us--mostly all positive, of course. Image

If yall want a nice strategic place to put up an SMU Lettermen (or fan's) tent, please let us know by getting in touch with UNT athletics and they will make suggestions to you all as to where to put the tent. Call UNT Athletics at 1-800-UNT-2366 and tell them of your intentions if you (in deed) decide to do this.

I would think your present SMU football coaches would visit your tent if you choose to put one up since I am sure they will be at this game in full force to scout Baylor, your opponent the Saturday after we play them.

Some of you SMU Lettermen may even want to contact Coach Fry with your intetentions of showing up for this event cause you all know he'd love to stop by and see the players who played for him at the school who gave him his first major college football head coach assignment.

Come early/stay late!

Great information! Thanks for sharing!

SMU will also be honoring Coach Fry the weekend of Nov. 15th! He will be in Dallas beginning Friday night (11/14) for a dinner, and will be recognized at halftime during the SMU vs. Rice game on Saturday, 11/15.

I know that one letter has been sent out to former Fry-era lettermen about it, so hopefully many will be able to come back and honor him, in SMU-Style!

I suppose that if you played during that time and haven't heard anything, call the Lettermen's Association at SMU!

Whoops! Sorry 'bout that as I had not heard of SMU's plans with Coach Fry this Fall. Glad to know you guys are doing this for one who we all know is a most unique and special person to all of us.

BUT...what the heck, your invite still stands for the UNT/Baylor game! Come out (early) to the practice fields behind the east stadium (Fouts) and there will be more free BBQ than you can shake a Mustang hoof at! Wear your red and blue! Then, bring your clipboards along and scout the Bears for your game with them the next week in Waco! Image

Come early/Stay late!

PS We also debut our million dollar scoreboard/jumbotron for the Baylor game. (Imagine, a scoreboard worth more than the stadium its in) LOL!

This new addition is one that UNT & Coca Cola parnershipped with Daktronics with the understanding that it could easily be moved across the interstate to our new stadium of which construction will begin soon on its 1'st phase.
