...there's about a 5 page thread on BaylorFans.com describing a rift in a Baylor support group called Friends of Baylor(FOB) who question whether Coach Guy Morris should have his contract extended and whether he the right man for the job because he occasionally drinks at a Waco watering hole called Georges and he has cursed in public. Don't they have some child molesting preachers they can investigate.

Waco has always reminded me of the town in Footloose.

Didn't Baylor disband their drama department once because they performed a play that showed cleavage. At the other end of the spectrum an Episcopalian friend of mine told me this joke. Why do Episcopalians make lousy chess players? They can't tell the bishops from the queens. Ba da bing.

I don't think its religious people who should baffle you Longhorn - its dense peple who should baffle you.

I consider myself fairly religious - and woud not hesitate to grab a cold one at george's - the only place in Waco worth going that I have found.

I have to jump in here.

I agree with gostangs and believe that Jesus himself would be down at George's where real people hang out. I am what you'd call a very "religious" person (a term that I don't like as it has little meaning. Believer's a better term). What I don't understand on the part of the non-believers is why they expect perfection from believers -- that anything short of perfection is hypocrisy. Well if you know anything about the Bible beyond that peddled by the slicked up televangelist types (who rightly sicken anyone with sense), you know that we *all* fall short of the glory of God. Only one person was ever perfect.

Anyway, I don't know the particulars of Morris or the situation. But it doesn't seem to me ridiculous to ask -- at a self-proclaimed Baptist school -- that its coach be held to certain moral standards. Are some members of FOB going overboard? Maybe, maybe not.

Then they'd have to burn a building down, right?
I thought that was the urban, I mean rural legend.

If I were a student/professor/administrator at Baylor, it would lead me to drink, too.

And ponyboy, you are correct. Heck, even Christ got mad every now and then.

I don't think Baylor is necessarily out of bounds to keep an eye on how Morris behaves in public.

Standards ain't a bad thing. Some take this 'we all fall short' thing the wrong way, I think. It's not meant to be an excuse to quit trying.

Now, everyone please rise for the benediction.

No they can have all the standards they want as long as they are happy finishing in the cellar of the Big 12 each and every year. This isn't Sunday school Ponyboy-let's get our heads out of the sand. They are so worried about what their head coach is doing drinking a few beers let's see them kick out players caught drinking-or better yet ban alumni from attending games who are ratted out as social drinkers. These FOB people will continue to humiliate the school in the future I am sure.

I think it was Knute Rockne that got Notre Dame in trouble for excessive partying at bowl games (or the trips to and from on the train). I know that the ND powers did not allow bowls for several years, but I believe they did not directly punish Rockne.
