A guy from my high school was one of the most recruited shooting guards in the Country. He chose Stanford. The guy had the most beautiful jump shot ever seen. He was also a straight A student. He got to Stanford got into drugs and tanked. Never graduated from college and works as a janitor now. The moral of the story is that no matter how gifted or special a kid is, once he gets to college anything can happen. The stories are endless. I wish him luck, because he will be facing every temptation known to man.

Made half a minute's worth of remarks to the gal on the sidelines for FSW that Westlake had no business being in the game, and he seemed snarky about it. Don't remember exactly, but I recall thinking to myself that he was clearly acting like a football dad, not a former professional football player with an image to protect. I don't know if the rest of the SLC faithful was thinking the same thing or not, but I bet the players on the field knew that Westlake was not creampuff.

Perhaps. However, I suspect that many of the SLC players' parents might have other plans for their kids.

Isn't Nate Newton supposed to be in prison for the pounds and pounds of dope the cops found in his car in East Texas? Was he just let out for one day to attend the game?

I don't mean to make light of the very serious issue you raise, East -- or to pick on you -- and drugs are certainly available in Denton (an amoral person could even argue they're the key to making life in Denton bearable, natch), I just had to laugh at the notion that a kid who is likely to end up at NTSTC would face every temptation known to man! :-)

BTW Dodge was named as about the No. 50 prospect in Texas in a recent 2008 Top 100 list I saw. Prior to his Junior year he was measured at about 5-11 and ran a 4.67. However, he had the second fastest shuttle time of all QBs tested (46 QBs) which shows his agility. My observation is that he throws an extremely tight spiral with very good velocity for a small QB. In comparing him to other small QBs 'd say he throws a better tight spiral with more velocity than Justin Willis did in his redshirt freshman year and much better than Justin did in high school. Not really talking about arm strength but he can throw a nice long pass too. One thing to factor in though-and college coaches do this-is that he has already been "coached up" which means he probably is one of the best QBs in the nation in mechanics and techniques since he was coached by his father who has run the most prolific offense in the Nation in High School and who himself was a record shattering All State QB in High School. That's abundantly clear from watching Dodge play. Other taller stronger kids may develop and surpass him in the College Game. Same thing happened to HIS father at Texas.

He was released from prison back in 2004 after serving about 2 1/2 years in prison.
