Under Achieving Red Raiders...according to a post on the Texas Tech Board the inter-conference record of the teams in the Big 12 South since its inception are: 1) UT 24-11, 2) Texas Tech 23-12, 3) OU 22-13, 4) A&M 21-14, 5) OSU 14-21 6) Baylor 1-34.

Re: Under Achieving Red RaidersHmmm, 23-11 sounds like the score of the Tech/SMU game this year doesn't it.

Re: Under Achieving Red RaidersIn the Mustangs' favor! SMU 23 TT 12

Re: Under Achieving Red RaidersBut the wins have not happened at the right time to provide any momentum for the program (which is why they will have a worse record this year) and no championships - or threats of a championship. Which is why they are underachieving and a big yawner.
Re: Under Achieving Red RaidersI wouldn't call nine wins (including Texas and A&M) underachieving. Plus, check out the yearly records since Leach was hired. I see a steady upward trend, especially since last year was the first year with full scholarships since 1998 or so.
And by the way, we were one game away from the Big 12 South title last year. I think that meets your definition of "threatening". [This message has been edited by Raider Red (edited 08-21-2003).]
Re: Under Achieving Red RaidersIt must be frustrating to be a Texas Tick "bed rater" with a team that wins some but not enough. Well, take heart in Ski Lubbock, at least your better than Baylor. Maybe C-USA will let you in because of your basketball team.

Re: Under Achieving Red RaidersLet me see? Competing extremely successful at the highest levels of College Football or pathetically wallowing at the depths of college football with an RPI below the Mendoza line. Boy I guess you really showed those Tech fans! Again CUSA? We are begging to get in a conference that Tech wouldn't give another thought. Nice comeback!!!!

Re: Under Achieving Red RaidersInconsistantly successful - yes. Extremely successful - No.
I do agree that it is a colossal waste of time for fans of a program that is struggling to get out of the WAC celler (not a high bar) to be critiquing a huge, average state school who is a consistant middle of the packer about their forgettable football team.
Re: Under Achieving Red RaidersWhat's with this Tech bashing anyway? I remember sitting in my suitemate's truck and listening to Tech thrash UT last year. I can understand an Aggie bashing Tech, or ANOTHER BIG 12 MEMBER (other than Baylor), but we aint ****. Not until we prove ourselves on the field. And that's all Stallion is trying to say. And believe it or not, Stallion wants to see SMU succeed as much as anyone else here.
Re: Under Achieving Red RaidersYes, Tech has done pretty well for themselves since joining the big xii and being part of the big xii has helped them considerably. They, like Baylor, are part of the big xii for the same reason...politics. Without the interference of the Guv and the Lt. Guv, it would have only been Texas and A&M joining the big eight to form a new conference. Tech should be congratulated for leveraging their conference affiliation so well...Baylor has not been able to do the same.
As Stallion will tell you, recruiting is the most important part of the process and recruiting to the big xii is definitely easier than recruiting to the WAC. Why Baylor has not been able to capitalize on this advantage is beyond me. Given the facts about recruiting stated above, it makes it clear that Bennett is doing an unbelieveable job in recruiting given that he is recruiting to the WAC. SMU may not do it this year or even next year, but if Bennett can continue to make the same improvements in recruiting he has so far SMU will make some big xii teams very unhappy in the not to distant future. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Under Achieving Red RaidersI don't understand the attack on TT. I usually pull for them when they play in the Big 129Esp against the Aggies and UT). They were always good opposition and ran a pretty clean program. I wish we were still at the same level. I hope they take us lightly and we can stay in the game.
Re: Under Achieving Red RaidersIf you ask any of us Red Raiders, I guarantee you that the majority would rather have SMU then Baylor in the conference.
Your new stadium is beautiful. Your Dallas locale is better than Waco (understatement of the millenium). Anyway...here's looking to a good contest next Saturday. I hope it's not as close as last year's! I am looking forward to coming back to your stadium someday (do we play each other in Dallas in 2004?). The only complaint I had was the traffic & parking. Re: Under Achieving Red RaidersTake the train next time. DART gets you back & forth to your car pretty quickly and buses get you to the stadium easily too. Or better yet, get your group to put up a tent along the Boulevard and enjoy a cool "tailgate" experience. The KU fans turned out in force when we opened with them and all thought it was a great deal (except that they lost). Tell your guys to take it easy on our poor little fellas.
Re: Under Achieving Red RaidersThey all beat up on each other in the Big 12....no way will TT ever win the Big 12 with OU, OSU, A&M, Texas, etc.
Puuuuhhhlllleeeze people, Tech will beat us handily. If they were playing at SMU, it might be closer but we'd still lose.
Re: Under Achieving Red RaidersMy hope is that we give them a decent game and beat the spread. Then those Ticks can jump up and down and pound their chests before they go back to branding calfs on Monday morning.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
