Things Going From Bad to Worse at Baylor

Postby Stallion » Sun Jan 07, 2007 4:46 pm

....Baylor assistant Wesley McGriff who Rivals documents as the lead recruiter for about 1/2 of the Baylor recruiting class has resigned to coach at Kansas State. According to about 1,000 posts on BaylorFans.com this is reportedly further fallout from massive Baylor power struggle involving Baylor Regent Jim Turner and others.

www.Baylorfans.com. Apparently, the Houston Chronicle is investigating and will soom have a story. There are about 10,000 posts on this issue at that site in the last 2 weeks. There are more posts on this one issue today alone than Ponyfans.com has had on all issues in the last 2 months. Makes Stallion look like a tame litt' puppy compared to what these pissed off Baptist are saying about their university. Basically Baylor supporters who want a more religiously conservative university have set up their own independent support group called Friends of Baylor ("FOB") which wants to push Morris out because he drives motorcycles, calls ties like showering with your sister, cusses and drinks an occassion beer at Georges. I'm serious that University is about to explode. FOB was originally set up to support that Clown Sloan when control over the university was at issue several years ago. If you know any Baylor recruits make sure to recommend they read Baylorfans.com so Stallion won't be the only one driving off recruits.

I only read one post on one thread over there...and here it is...you have got to be kidding!!

And please do not respond to this message by saying that it's football and it's ok to cuss. Why don't you go tell God that. There is no verse that says you can't ride motorcycles and drink beer, but you better believe there are plenty about cursing. If you would like me to post some of those, I will be more than willing.

Why don't you go tell God that? Are you serious? Someone needs to come down off of their own private Mt. Sinai.

If he gets canned, we should look to grab this guy after next year. If he can get recruits to waco, he can get them to the hilltop.

Sounds like the guy who could get recruits to Waco will now be trying to get them to Manhattan, Kansas. Morriss is the dude who blew up the connection to Berkner.................

Hey, Baylor has long had much stricter lifestyle rules than SMU. That's Baylor and if they have rules of conduct for faculty, staff and coaches, that's Baylor's right. And if coaches take a job there, knowing those rules exist, don't going complaining about them if you're held to them. And by the way remember Baylor had their own mini-death penalty in basketball last year, so the righteous among them have a bigger voice than they used to. Sound familiar?

Why do Methodists always take two Baptists with them when they go fishing?

Because if you just take one, he'll drink all your beer.

Very true. I've heard the same joke about Mormons. I actually saw that one in action. I took a Mormon girl out one time who really partied. Went to a party and she saw a friend from her stake, she didn't touch a drop all night and neither did the friend.

Baylor sells Baylor, not withstanding Waco. Ever go on Baylor's campus?
Everybody is friendly, outgoing, and says hello as if they are happy you are there (at least they used to be when I was at SMU).

SMU's campus attitude is either a general "who gives a #@#$?" or a subtle and benign (but often chilly) "mind-your-own-business-I-don't-know-you" attitude. Life is more like SMU, but Baylor to a high school prospect would seem very, very nice. There are plenty of hotties on campus, and a high school prospect isn't going to notice whether they are 'good' girls or 'bad' girls on a recruiting visit. And if he does, I can guarantee you the coaches have figured out which he wants to see before he sees it.

So be careful with comparisons between SMU and Baylor. The similarities pretty much begin and end with the term "college student in a private school".

this controversy goes much deeper than whether Baylor students, alumni and employees are or should be perfect Baptist, but rather this controversy is a continuation of the power struggle that has been going on at Baylor for the last 5 or so years as a result of a movement of conservative Baptist to direct the future of that university. It is shocking that a university has allowed such a splinter group with enormous power and financial muscle to raise funds separate from the university itself to financially coerce the direction of the university. If it continues it will continue to have a disasterous affect on the perception of the university in academia

Oh, you mean like the so-called "religious right" has had on the Republican Party, particularly the Texas Republican Party?

And that comment probably just got me blackballed by any ponyfans out there who find themselves in agreement with the tenets of the so-called "religious right".

THAT is the kicker, and that is what is insidious about the splinter group. They may have decent and moral conviction about what they are doing, but if one disagrees, even among minor issues, then one finds oneself, proverbially speaking, being picked last to play kickball or Red Rover. No matter how righteous somebody legitimately might be, power and the seeking of it have the same effect on those of more faith, less faith, and no faith.

To coin Keanu Reeves in Parenthood.
