San Jose State defense

Post by Corso »

OK, they beat Stanford and scared USC. Therefore they'll beat us?

Not so fast my friends!

After playing teams like Kansas and North Carolina State in the non-conference part of the schedule, San Jose's defensive line will look kind of small. They're not bad, and I think they're fairly quick. But SMU tackles Joey Slaten and Jeff Erxleben should be to stand up the Spartan defensive ends and keep McCown upright and in one piece. And they shouldn't even need help from a tight end or running back.

We'll see.

Not so fast, my friend.

I'm not saying we won't need ANY help - that never hurts. I'm just saying that the San Jose State DE's don't appear to be as big and strong as the ones from NCState and Kansas. There's no reason our tight ends and running backs can't help out. I'm just suggesting that our tackles should be able to hold their own against these guys (unless San Jose State has discovered the next Dexter Manley/Chris Doleman/Bruce Smith type - a DE with ridiculous speed who can beat his blocker with his wheels.) Yes, the others should help. But hopefully they'll have more freedom to leave the backfield than in some other games.

Sorry, I didn't understand your intent. I agree with you wholeheartedly. I hope Josh has the time to take a drink of water back there before he has to throw. That will give him plenty of time. He does great when he doesn't have to hurry, and he's been very accurate when given the time.
