Did anyone else see it?
As the buzzer sounds and the ball clanks off the back of the rim, Eustachy makes a bee line towards the student section behind his bench, leans over the scorer's table while pointing at and taunting the students that were obviously giving him the business throughout the second half.
I could not believe what I saw. What a jerk. He's obviously learned nothing during his fall from grace. Nothing said by the students could have justified such a reaction from the head coach of a D1 basketball team. It was classless. Reminded me of what Billy Tubbs used to do.
PLEASE tell me someone else saw it.

Screw him. I didn't see it but would have loved to.
I don't think anyone has even accused him of being a stand-up guy, so what can you really expect.

Kind of sounds like when Roy Williams had a few all-class comments for me when he was head coach at Kansas. I couldn't believe that someone who was getting pimped as one of the country's "great coaches" would do that, especially after a 40-point road win (or whatever the margin was). For what it's worth, I've met Eustachy once, and he was courteous, sharp, funny as hell and generally quite pleasant. I've met Williams twice (other than our faceoff at Moody), and I sure can't say the same about him.
With all that said, however, Eustachy has to be able to walk away from comments like that, because once he downed some beer and got caught on film with college girls, it became a part of his history, and it is something that some fans in every arena will bring up for the rest of his career. You mess up, you man up and face the music, and you go on.

The depiction of Roy Williams as a great guy, sensitive dude, compassionate coach, etc. is one of the great frauds of all time. He's an uptight, bitter jerk. He practically spat on the fawning Kansas media and they still portrayed him as a fun, caring person.
I wondered what happened to Eustachy after the buzzer because I wanted to see how he greeted Doherty when they shook hands. I couldn't find him for a while and figured he headed straight to the locker room or something. If he can't handle the heckling at SMU, he better quit now. There are places that will be a lot tougher on him than SMU. (And if you don't want to be heckled, try not dressing like a junior Johnny Cash).
That said, I noticed there were students in the bleachers behind the USM bench. I thought that was outlawed by CUSA? They may not have been directly behind the bench, as most conference rules require, but they were close enough, obviously, to be a nuisance. I wonder if they start banning students from that side of the bleachers altogether. I hope not. All it takes is stationing a campus cop there to make sure they behave.
One of the greatest things about Moody is you can get that close to the teams. Most gyms, you can't get that close or you have to be a major donor. It stinks that we can't seat fans all across the bleachers on that side, rather than sticking the overflow in the end zones. It looks bad when we actually have a few people at the game but the bleachers behind the visitor's bench are practically empty.
By the way, great atmosphere in the second half last night, and that was with just 2,500. The scoreboard adds a lot to the atmosphere, too. Now that I've seen it a few games, it doesn't look too big for the building.
As for the scoreboard dedication ceremony, that was one big endorsement for hitting the concession stand at halftime. Ditch the prepared speeches, guys. If you've got to look down at your speech, through reading glasses, no one's going to pay attention to what you're saying anyway. Don't worry about getting all the facts straight, memorize the important stuff and just wing it. I'm sure the donors would rather hear heartfelt comments of gratitude, with eye contact, than a prepared statement. But that's just me.

I know I mententioned this before on another thread, but Eustacy dressed like he was going to hit Studebakers after the game. All I could think of when I looked at him was that he dressed like a old guy trying to look cool at a singles bar (or a frat party). He certainly didn't dress like a basketball coach. There was quiet a contrast between the styles of the respective coaches. I must say I liked ours a lot better.

The belt was hillarious, haven't seen one of those in 20 years.

I had a similar experience with Tom Penders a few years ago when he was with Texas. Haven't really followed his career since then (absolutely no desire to) and I'm sure others may think otherwise, but he'll always be a big time jerk in my book. Most importantly, hoping we come away with a W on Saturday, but if we can somehow make him look bad in the process, that'd be an added bonus.

There are some stickers on the bleachers on the visitors side that block off the CUSA required section. I guess the rest are fair game - glad we had students to fill them last night.
