SMU defender and Herman Trophy finalist (the Heisman for soccer players) was selected today in the MLS Super Draft with the 32 overall pick mid-way through the third round by the D.C. United.
Considering he had preformed well at the invite only combine leading up to the draft this pick may have surprised a few people. Lets hope he takes the deal and continues the success of former Mustangs at the next level.

I second that, but hopefully in an FC Dallas uniform.

I'd like to see Edgar Davids headbutt David Beckham in the near future at Pizza Hut Park.

With his tough defensive style he will certainly get the attention of Nowak. The United clearly had problems in the backline last year. Given their weakness on the back line, he could see some playing time. Although Nowak is known for his disdain toward using younger players in games.

From what I have read, his speed may have caused him to drop in the draft. He tends to over commit and not have the pace to recover when beaten by pro level players. If you have the tactical skills, which he does, this lack of pace can be overcome with coaching but will cost you in the draft, which values both speed and skill.

that's exactly what i heard may have killed him too, speed. he was disappointed in where he was selected but speed is extremely important in the defense, as everyone knows.

He wasn't the most heralded player when he got to SMU, either, was he? But he sure put together a terrific career, and I look for him to outwork the competition -- again -- and forge a nice career for himself.
Good luck, Jay!

Not going to happen. He just signed a new contract with Ajax Amsterdam.
