UCF Game Thread - 6:30pm StartModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower I was just thinking, hats off to Rich Phillips. He has put up with this doing fball and now bball.....
Pearson needs to stop shooting and just concentrate on defense and rebounds when that happens. He has a good physical body to cause some problems...frustrating to not get more involved.
Just got back from the game.. and a few beers a little while ago.
Was neat to see Doh and the players in person, but that was one hell of an ugly game. SMU basketball just isn't.. good. These players look like they belong on some of my students' middle school rec teams. It sucks to lose all the time!
I also don't think Doh will need 5 years. Sir, shooting-star, sir.
Frosh 2005 (TEN YEARS AGO!?!) The original Heavy Metal.
Support this team now.
Do not give up on them. Go to the games. Yell. Cheer. Give the opposition hell. Be a Mustang. See you Saturday at Moody. "37"
Once teams discovered our weaknesses and had enough talent to exploit them, I suspected this season would have a tough turn. Teams know that they can press us into mistakes. Teams know to then drop into a zone and dare us to shoot the 3. And when per chance we do get the ball inside, they know they can foul us because our free throw shooting is not great. Until we can make them pay for those strategies, we will have a long rest of the season. Our guards need to find a spot on the floor in practice that they hit 75-80% of the time outside of the arc. And get to that spot in games. Virtually every shooter has their spot on the floor that they know if they get there and are open they can drain it. Perhaps its time to get out the medicine ball for passing drills. That does wonders for improving your ability to catch the ball because if you don't, you get a 10 lb sack hitting your sack or head. Lastly, wind sprints followed by free throw shooting over and over and over again. These are elemental things a college coach shouldn't have to do, but at this stage its time to get back to fundamentals.
Well East, have you changed your opinion on our defense yet? The loss to Southern Miss at home really hurts because we have to beat the other mediocre teams on our court. Unless their play makes a drastic change I don't see us winning a conference road game this year against anyone.
I think we have played especially poor to start CUSA play and don't expect us to continue to play so badly. I still think we are looking at 6-10 in CUSA and I would imagine we would have to pull out a road win to get there.
