Will you define the word "tower"? I think of a tower as something that is taller the average surrounding structure. I see nothing of the sorts. And for the record, our "tin can" of a stadium is ADA compliant. Unlike your oversized ugly cat box.
The ADA compliance process is going to involve virtually a gutting of the structure, without changing the actual structural characteristics of the structure. Honestly, you could most likely build a nicer, modern facility for less about the same cost. But it would probably involve tearing down that ugly building next to Amon Carter.

Don't know where Froggie Fever gets his info, but it's pretty bad. The ballpark figure being tossed for the stadium renovation is around is $63 million, not $90 million. And the plan calls for four towers at the corners of the stadium, not six around the periphery. These are "towers" in the sense that they fully enclosed structures six stories high -- not in the sense that they tower over the stadium.

The stadium will be made fully ADA compliant with elevators, easy wheelchair access, and handrails. Also escalators for non-ADA ticket holders. There is no plan to make the stands "less steeper," but it's possible all the bench seating will be replaced with chair seating. All the concessions and restrooms will be redone. The south end zone concourse will be covered by an arcade that supports a new building containing private suites, an additional athletics heritage center (the one in the Justin Center has run out of space), and additional academic and support space for athletics. Private suites will also be added to the west side, and the old pressbox will be replaced by a larger, more comfortable, and better equipped one.

The plans are far from final, but TCU has already secured -- or is in the process of securing -- about 60% of the cost. TCU will spend more on this renovation than SMU spent on its entire stadium. We will do this because we value the heritage of the place. It's the stadium of Dutch Meyer, Sammy Baugh, Davey O'Brien, Jim Swink, Bob Lilly, and LaDainian Tomlinson. One doesn't demolish one's heritage for an aluminum tinkertoy surrounded by an attractive brick facade.

At present, TCU is also redoing its central campus as a $100 million Campus Commons, which will be bordered by a new student union, four new residence halls, and the old student center. The old student center will be gutted and reconfigured as classrooms and faculty offices. It will also get a new facade to make it architecturally compatible with the rest of the Commons. The project will be completed in the next 18 months. You can see what it will look like here: http://www.physicalplant.tcu.edu/flyover/flyover.html.

What's that saying about putting lipstick on a pig (or, in this case ugly cream-colored brick on a landfill)?

With all due respect, comparing Amon Carter to Camden Yards (forgive me -- as a long-suffering Orioles fan, you're talking about baseball's Mecca) is like comparing that William Hung guy to Luciano Pavorotti.

I love how the TCU folks assume that with the exception of TCU, noone has renovated or built a new building on another campus in 50 years. SMU just spent over $500,000,000.00 and is spending more and removating every dorm and yada yada yada. And I am sorry, growing up in Fort Worth and being a football nut, I have been in Amon Carter more often than most froggie fans (I loved my autographed Jim Wacker football). Amon Carter is a dump and has been a dump for 30 thirty years.

I think it is great you are proud of your school. I assure you nobody here cares one lick about any yellow brick building you choose to build.

What TCU person has suggested this? Can you link the post, or are we feeling just a wee bit defensive today?
