Mustain: Louisville, Oklahoma, Tulsa

Postby CalallenStang » Thu Jan 18, 2007 3:19 pm

Found this on anothe board, no source given:

Mitch Mustain is considering transferring to one of three schools, according to ESPN.com and KTUL in Tulsa, Okla.

Mustain is looking at Louisville and Oklahoma according to ESPN.com, while KTUL reported Wednesday on its Web site that Mustain would likely follow former Arkansas offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn to the University of Tulsa.

Tulsa officials have denied any contact with Mustain.

Louisville is coming off one of its most successful seasons in school history, posting an 12-1 mark and earning a win in the Orange Bowl over Wake Forest. The Cardinals lost their head coach Bobby Petrino to the NFL's Atlanta Falcons, but named former Tulsa coach Steve Kragthorpe as his replacement.

Oklahoma finished its season 10-3, losing to Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. Both the Cardinals and Sooners have starting quarterbacks in tact, both of whom will be seniors in 2007.

Mustain will be forced to sit out one year wherever he decides to transfer to.

Tulsa will also be returning a senior quarterback in 2007, leaving the possibility for Mustain to start in 2008 at any of the three schools.

Tulsa hired Malzahn Tuesday as its co-offensive coordinator.

Mustain finished his 2006 season going 69-of-132 for 894 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Mustain also finished his Razorback career with an 8-0 record as a starter.

I will repeat what I have heard and posted on the other board. Word here is TT, and OU but Mustain is leaning most toward staying at UA. My questin in all seriousness is, since he did not enroll and has received his full release, if he stays is he required to sit out a year?

I may not have been clear in my question. I know he sits out if he goes to any other D1 school. My question is does he have to if he stays at UA. Or is that what you were answering?

My thoughts vary on this. First, he is not enrolled in school and has a release in hand. That would seem like he is open game for all schools, including UA for "new" registration this meaning he would have to sit out even at Arkansas. But, since he would not be leaving the school he originally signed with it would seem that he would not have to be "punished" for switching. The Arkansas people pretty well want him to go. They are very tired of him, his mother and his grandmother.

By the way if anyone cares, Ben Cleveland, the other Springdale kid Malzahn brought in said he is happy at UA and will stay.

OU said thanks, but no thanks. He never visited there.

He's looking at UL, Tulsa, USC, Bama, and maybe one more.

He must decide by tomorrow. If not, he will either return to Arkansas, or sit out the semester.

Nathan [deleted] will not be heading to Tulsa no matter what. Malzahn never recruited [deleted] to Arkansas, and the [deleted] family isn't huge fans of Malzahn either.

he could finish out as a regular student at Arkansas and transfer at the end of the school. Wouldn't miss anymore playing time but would miss this spring training. He would then have an entire year to still learn the offense.

Louisville issued a statement saying they're not interested.

Gee, with family like he has, I wonder why?
If I am a head coach, I tell his mother up front that she gets a muzzle, and if she pipes up so much as once, his butt gets benched.

Sorry, but after having dealt with Pop Warner coaches pushing their own sons at the expense of my kid, I'm done with that whole live-through-your-kid-because-you-have-no-retirement thing.

Mustain is a spoiled brat and surprised these schools still catering to his every whim (Ark spent $6,000 for the kid's shoes):

Harry King of Northwest Arkansas Morning News:

Hogs have contract with adidas but Mustain likes NIKE shoes .. Hogs spend $6,000 with adidas to make 10 pairs of custom shoes for Mustain and keep with contract ... At Cap One Bowl, Mustain wearing NIKE shoes.

Kind of ironic that mommie wants him to go but it is probbly because of mommie and grandma that nobody wants him and he will probably end up staying at Akransas. If so, there is some tremendous fence mending that will need to be done between Mustain and teammates. Most of the team is apparently fed up with him. This poor kid has some problems.

Looks like Malzahn is not waiting on Mustain. He just got a committment from a kid from North Carolina that was being courted by Arkansas, Miami Fl, Michigan State, and others. Sounds like there will be some good competition coming out of Tulsa in the coming years.
