9.95 to watch 1 girls game on the internet?Sorry, I'm a poor graduate student. Have they heard of supply and demand? Why isn't this game opened to general subscribers?
Nevertheless, Go lady Stangs! Beat Tulsa!
Another national tv loss by the girls. There is no excuse, for SMU not having a better womens program than Tulsa. Or ANY sport for that matter!
Oh stop it -- no excuse? Starting point guard Katy Cobb -- by far our best ball-handler -- missed the game. Maybe the best defender, Sharee Shepherd, missed the game. Sounded to me like Tulsa was ganging up on Janielle Dodds, who played a lot of the time with four freshmen out there. Those freshmen have some real talent, and I think are going to elevate the team in years to come, but they are freshmen, and are prone to mistakes. Without Cobb, there was little outside shooting until Gillian Samuel heated up late. This team needs to get healthy. I was in Dallas when we beat Tulsa last month, and I saw the Tulane game -- the Ponies sounded seriously short-handed today.
I'll see you at your games at Rice and Cougar High. Go PONIES!
NO EXCUSE FOR A SCHOOL LIKE SMU, TO BE IN A POSITION TO BE "HAVING" TO PLAY FOUR FRESHMEN. WHAT DADDY WOULD NOT WANT HIS DAUGHTER, TO GET A FULL RIDE TO A SCHOOL LIKE SMU? ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU COMPARE IT, TO THE REST OF THE SCHOOLS IN CUSA.
True -- just about every parent would be proud to have his/her child go to a school like SMU. However, if Cobb and Shepherd are healthy, those freshman all (or mostly) come off the bench behind a veteran cast of starters. Coach Rhompola and her staff are outstanding coaches, and with a full complement of players, can pound the likes of Tulsa (see game 1 between the two teams). In basketball, with the limited rosters, losing one or two players can cripple a team more than in other team sports that have more extensive and deeper rosters. Teams like Tennessee and UConn can weather the storm of injures, but there's a reason teams like that are in the running every year for the national championship. For other teams, health is a huge issue, and right now, the Ponies are limping a little. Putt Cobb and Shepherd -- hell, just one of them -- back in the lineup and take Jillian Samuels away from Tulsa, and we're all laughing about how the Ponies whacked the Golden Hurricane today.
Get healthy, Cobb and Shepherd. Go Ponies!
Hey Alex,
Did you take a look at the box score? We basically rotated six players today. Katy Cobb was out. Sharee Shepherd was out. Elbie Gates played out of position at guard. Jillian Samuels - a true freshman - played the entire 40 minutes. How do we get in this situation? Sr. G Katie Gross out for season with an injury. So. TR G Kenzie Cole injures her shoulder and is now out for the season. So, our depth at guard, with Katy and Ree injured is gone. Coaches can't plan to lose four guards - that's why our freshmen are out there. The positive - they're getting good in-game experience and will be something else down the road. That's not to say that this season is a loss. We'll get healthy and be a dangerous team in the conference tournament. And you can mark that. So, lay off unless you look at all the facts. ![]()
I'm not making myself clear. I am not just talking about THIS game, or THIS season. Or even just womens basketball.
Hmm, no wonder we all misunderstood your convoluted post. Sir, shooting-star, sir.
Frosh 2005 (TEN YEARS AGO!?!) The original Heavy Metal.
Oh boy, did I pick the wrong time to quit drinking! In short, what I am trying to say is..... that SMU SHOULD dominate or (be top 25) as Steve Orsini puts it, in EVERY frickin" sport that we play!!! Jeeez!!! Get a pen and paper, and compare what SMU has, compared to every other CUSA school. Some of you limp wristed, excuse making, no expectations demanding, mediocrity accepting wimps, better get some pride ( or grow some)!!! Mercy Stallion, I'm starting to see your point.
I agree with Alex that Smu should dominate most schools in CUSA and eventually will do that. Our new AD is going to make that happen.
Excuses excuses excuses are not going to be acceptable any longer. Dallas and SMU has too much to offer over alot of these schools that have been beating us for years. Of course like Alex says, his words are more about the big picture than this one game. I think we all want the same thing. Go Lady Mustangs!
Call me what you will, it really doesn't bother me. I was just responding to the ridiculous post that there is "no excuse" for SMU to play four freshmen. Alex's post looked to me like a one game rant. Now, he says it's for the big picture. Whatever.
One game - It's pretty simple to see to anyone who knows anything about this team and about basketball that injuries happen and we got caught shorthanded yesterday without two starting guards. The same two guards who helped us beat Tulsa on 1/2 at Moody. Big picture - I follow this team more than any team at SMU and I like our coaching staff, but don't think for one minute that I expect nothing less than a conference title and NCAA trip, just like our AD. There's so much internet bravado posted on this board that I would have let a "big picture" post go without saying anything. I'll sit back now and see what Neil and Geddy have to say about it. As for me, "If I could wave my magic wand, I'd make everything all right." ![]()
