Roberts came out the very next game and had possibly his best night of the season. 19 points if I recall, and we won handily. While I am sure Doherty and his staff come down on players hard, they probably build them back up too, its just not apparent at games from the stands. The DMN article even commented about the team lacking confidence and being down so they put together a highlight reel to pump everyone up.
I agree. The idea that the team's poor performance stems from Doherty "over-reaction" with Roberts is way off base. This team lost because they absolutely can't handle trapping full & half court defenses. I do think it's a little strange that Doherty seems to WANT Killen to be isolated and bring the ball up the court by himself (not every time but quite a few times). Whenever SMU was able to start a half court offense with time on the clock they looked pretty good. These guys are learning albeit slowly.
SMU was exposed by earlier than A&T - they were exposed by Prarie View who gave SMU trouble with their full court press...

Right A&T just took advantage knowing we had a problem.
And regarding the Roberts thing. He played out of his mind at Centenary then game after the incident and hit 6 of seven threes as I recall.
Go Ponies!! Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad

I hope they all caught the bus back to El Paso last night.

Correction, none of them were there at the final buzzer. The big crowd of students to their right was still there, right to the end. And most of them were wearing red, not maroon.

Well I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. In that case, its too bad most of you couldn't get to the game on time, get your hot dog, and figure out which seat you were supposed to be in until well into the first period.

If they bought their tickets online and had to wait in line at 'willcall' person, I'm inclined to give them a pass. If we ever regularly get 4,5, or 6000 into Moody consistently, I shudder to think of what that line will be like.

I hope we have that problem someday. I stood in the will call line also but I allowed enough time to deal with it. There seemed to be some confusion with people trying to do something other than just pick up tickets. Once that got cleared up, the line seemed to move ok. I think they will also mail your ticket to you if you don't want to pick it up at will call.

You're right. I stand corrected. My bad.

Despite recent poor play and dismal weather a good crowd attended the game.
Doherty himself was responsible for several hundred attendees. He hosted a free youth camp earlier that morning at Moody. His staff ran a great skills camp, and all 100 kids received vouchers for the UTEP game. Doherty spoke to the campers at the start and finish of the hour, called upon the kids to flash Peruna Ears (they did) and signed autographs for the kids afterward.
During the hour Doherty wandered among the parents, greeting them with kindness and enthusiasm, always asking "will we see you at the game tonight?" Lo and behold, many of the kids (and their siblings and parents) were found later that night up in Section H, cheering for the Ponies.
Richard Sweet has his work cut out for him in restoring attendance and interest, but Doherty's enthusiasm could prove to be an ace in the hole.

Thanks to the need for cheap labor and the refusal of the government to enforce the nations laws, there are many UTEP fans pouring into Dallas.

Just curious: were you the guy wearing the bib overalls, miner's hat and carrying a pickaxe who was sitting in the upper level above the UTEP team bench?
And while I'm at it...I sure hope that Doherty and the SMU coaching staff put a stop to this silliness of visiting teams taking their chairs out to the middle of the court during timeouts once the new floor is installed! It's a sign of disrespect by visiting teams and someone needs to put a stop to it.

I saw that guy too. Enthusiasm is one thing, but this isn't an NFL game or anything!
