Mustangs-Colts Tie-In

In Orsini's new blog, he congratulates Jim Irsay, owner of the Colts. Says Irsay is an SMU grad and was on the 1978 FB team. Does anyone know if he ever played?

Irsay's dad stole the team from the passionate fans of Baltimore under the cover of nightfall. Seriously -- media showed up the next day to discover an empty building.

My empathy for the fine folks of Baltimore ended when they yanked the Browns from Cleveland. I have no ties to Cleveland or Baltimore, but it's the same story in reverse. Baltimore saw that Indy built a stadium and lured the Colts, so it built a stadium and lured the Browns.

The only difference is that Cleveland got to keep the name Browns, while Baltimore had to adopt the name Ravens. But the Colts and their history went to Indy (Raymond Berry, Johnny Unitas). Just because his dad was a low life doesn't make the son one. But I have to root for the Bears. My step-son grew up in Chicago and is a huge Bears fan. Also, I hated the Colts when they were in Charm City.

I don't remember Irsay on the '78 team.

Daughter is also a grad student at SMU. The Irsay legacy lives on for the Ponies.

was a walk-on who had a cup of coffee; his time on the team will increase in direct proportion to his willingness to donate

Just because Art Modell is a greedy, classless schmuck who doesn't understand the simplest definition of the word "loyalty" doesn't make the late Bob Irsay any less of one. I'd have a hard time rooting for either one of them -- or in the case of Irsay, his former team -- in anything.

I checked the team composite picture for 1978 and Irsay isn't on the team. He may have walked on but he didn't stay around long enough to make the team composite pic.

Yeah I remember him on the preseason roster as a walkon when I was in the SID's office because I remember the Colts connection. Smart move by Ron Meyer who ended up with the Colts.
