What is the 07 schedule and your predictions?Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower I'm not ready to say what our record will be, too many things can change between now and then. Here's what I do predict though:
-Poor ball security -Penalties in key situations -Lack of a power running game -At least one "Huh?" coaching decision (going for 2 with a tied score or something) -Swinging gate (and the associated illegal formation/motion penalties that go with it)
I sense a April fools joke somehwere in that mm1965 post........who will Stallion have left to make fun of if he has jumped off the ledge............
I am finding myself visiting this site much less frequently since anytime after I joined. The wind was completely knocked out of my sails by Bennett's failure to deliver on his promise of a bowl game. Every time I visit I smell that poo-poo, NTSU-loss stench and I am reminded of 1st and goal TWICE from the 1.
LAST SEASON was THE season, folks. No ifs, ands or buts...and SMU FAILED. For the first time, I actually find myself nodding with MM65...he gets what many 5-year or less fans don't. There IS NO TOMORROW! My prediction for 07: 6-6...who cares...20 years of bad. Geaux MUSTANGS! Geaux Tigers!
Lord have mercy, I don't think I can handle a negative MrMustang. This might be the sign that we have bottomed out.
One of Two things is going on, MrMustang finally cracked or this is a genious marketing strategy to get his new blog some extra hits....

We couldn't win the conference in clearly a down year for C-USA, now I fear for the future of what little progress we've made.
When we would get crushed in the WAC at least there was BYU and then Boise State to make the conference look good, instead next year we'll be crushed in that conference that's 1-4 in bowl games and every team beating up on the other to make everyone look bad. Welcome to 4-8 (or -3-8 depending on number of games). ---------------

I predicted bowl-eligibility and a season that I thought would be anywhere from 6-6 to 9-3 depending on which way the close ones went...obviously we lost one to UNT that we shouldn't have but even that wouldn't keep us out of a bowl if it were this year instead of last...look at this: 2006-2007 Conference USA has one more bowl tie-in than last year... That being said, looking at the momentum of our conference mates, here's my "Lord, I hope SMU does as good as I think they can" prediction this year... NON-CONFERENCE Texas Tech - Loss UNT - Win TCU - Loss Arkie State - Win (2-2) non conference CUSA WEST Rice - Win Tulsa - Loss UTEP - Win Houston - Loss Tulane - Win (3-2) division CUSA INTERDIVISIONAL GAMES Memphis - Win UCF - Win Southern Mississippi - Loss (2-1) interdivision (5-3) CONFERENCE (7-5) PREDICTED RECORD *subject to change when the scheduled dates come out* Flex games (ones that could very possibly go the opposite way of what I called them): UNT (If Dodge has them ready, watch out) Tulsa (Beat them this year) UTEP (We should beat them, but who knows) Houston (Hey, we played them close!) That being said...my prediction range is from (5-7) to (9-3) GO MUSTANGS!
From 65's Blog Screw It! I Must Have Been Crazy! What the hell was I thinking? The S.M.U. that I grew up with and loved over the years no longer exists. S.M.U. is now a school populated mostly by rich, spoiled brats who have no sense of school spirit or pride. I used to love this school, even though I didn't attend it. You know what? I just don't give a damn anymore. Truly. S.M.U. and especially its athletics program has finally made me retch. I'm sick and tired of expecting a loss every Saturday and being pleasantly surprised by a win come Sunday morning. I'm not renewing my Mustang Club membership this year. I'm not buying season tickets this year. I may not renew my S.M.U. license plates for this year. S.M.U. has no commitment to its athletic program. It's all smoke-and-mirrors with Turner, Orsini and the rest of the athletic department and the Mustang Club. I'm as mad as hell and I just can't take it anymore. This will probably be my last blog post. Hasta la vista.
You must mean per game.
That's a safe gamble. I bet the DMV gets a dozen SMU license plate applications a year, if that many, and none will personalize it with MM1965's plate. IF we ever get good and MM65 wants to get back on the train his plate will still be available...unless Stallion buys it to torcher him. #NewLobCity
What I'm saying is this isn't all black and white. There is middle ground between failure and success. Some of you have already run into your fallout shelters and are stocking up on bottled water. There is optimism to be had about SMU football again. Recruits like where SMU is going and are finally taking a look towards the Hilltop. They want to be a part of a program on the rise and they believe SMU is one of them. As for our expectations affecting the product on the field, there are two indirect ways. The first being, some players actually read this, and I have to believe that is a lot more exciting to see a board hyped up, rather than bashing everything with a defeatist attitude. Secondly, hype is excitement, excitement leads you to tell people about SMU football, that leads to more people coming to the games, and, as you know, the crowd can play a major factor in how a team plays. If the fans are into the game and the team, then the team will have more confidence and that will go into the game play. Now obviously the players ultimately have to make the plays and get it done on the field, but it surely doesn't hurt to look at the bright side.
