Hype is what?

Postby Sam I Am » Tue Jan 23, 2007 11:13 pm

As I was quickly scanning this tread, when I got to the posting about hype being excitement, I thought that it read that hype is excrement. At this point, I think my first impression about hype was the right one. Only winning can breed excitement at SMU. I think our NC schedule will be
2-2 at best, and the CUSA will be 3-5, maybe 4-4. If 6-6 is the best I can forecast, then 5-7 is more realistic. Good coaches make an impact in less than five years, and we have seen the difference the right coach made at Tulsa, Rice, UH, and UTEP. SMU will have to make another painful change and hope that Orsini can do for FB what he tried to do for BB. By the way, how does the recruiting class for this year compare with the past couple of years?

The MUstang Club is about to kick off the 2007 membership drive, I hope that all of you who believe that SMU will have a so so season or worse will increase you contribution significantly. It will take big big big $$$$ to bring in a coach and staff that will get bring us to a top 25 program.

That is true...but I only used the ones that I was highly unsure of as flex games...because I don't feel that it would be worth a post to say that we will have somewhere between 0 and 12 wins

Me thinks MM65 is yanking your chain. In the middle of his rant he states "I'm sick and tired of expecting a loss every Saturday and being pleasantly surprised by a win come Sunday morning. " ...read that very carefully. That doesn't really fit the rest of the rant. I think his tongue must be aching from pressing so hard against the inside of his cheek.

If I could be sure my $ would go toward that project, I would renew my membership. Unfortunately, we've got a holdover. I would contribute to a specific fund/cause, but not the Mustang Club again.

My prediction is 5-6. The bus gets lost and doesn't get the team to the game on the other game.

Sorry, season tickets are a thing of the past. I thought we were playing 12 games though. 6-6 seems like a pretty safe prediction to me at this point. I'll try to choose a game or two to attend. Would have gone to the Rice game last year if it hadn't been Thanksgiving weekend. Good thing I didn't waste my time and money though. The last game I saw in person was the TCU game and it was fun.

Perhaps. But I don't really have much stake in whether MrMustang99 considers himself a fan of SMU or not. Even if he's pulling everyone's leg, it's still kind of funny (in a sad way) to think that SMU might have fallen so far that one of the biggest sunshiners of all time has had a breakdown.

First Lamont Cranston disappears and now MrMustang1965 has gone to the darkside. I don't know if I can take anymore.

Well, clearly that's a retraction if ever there was one. Thanks for clearing all of this up.

It may be somewhat better than the last two, it is debatable. Three years ago, or four was our best recent class if you go by the number of 3 star players and probably top 100 players but Stallion likes the number of BCS offers in this class so it might well be better than the last two years.

Thanks ponygrad, recruits are about the same, eh?

Postby Sam I Am » Thu Jan 25, 2007 8:08 am

The reason I asked for a comparison of recruiting classes is that I have presumed that what we will get will be about the same as PB is capable of getting for SMU. Therefore, I have concluded that what we will see are teams that might break even at best. The problem is twofold. Issue #1, is PB recruiting as well as can be expected? Probably, but I would like some opinions about that. I don't usually read much criticism about his ability to get mid-level players. The real issue is the second part of the problem: what the coach does with what he gets. I think the verdict has long since been that the job is not getting done. SMU will have to move on in one more year. Circle the calendar for November 2007 when the change will begin.
