What gives? Is TCU's projected recruiting class really that far down the list? Is SMU really only 3 spots behind?

Its a statistical anomaly. TCU has 1 4 star and 6 3 star players and generally those players have been recruited by top BCS schools and I mean Top 20 while SMU has some generally recruited by low rung BCS schools. SMU has 2 3 stars. In average rating per recruit TCU is No. 58 and SMU is No. 81-and since the SMU has only one m0ore commitment-its a fair comparison. Now I will say TCU has taken more questionmarks this year than I remember. Things to watch for-late switches from Big 12 schools to TCU by academic questionmarks who are dropped by Big 12 teams. Its happened every year for about the last 5 years. I'm also predicted probably one or two TCU players get bumped to 3 stars-I'll guess McCoy and Olson both of whom SMU offered. Both kids got the offers to justify a 3 star ranking in my opinion.

My recollection is that the MWC has some more difficult academic requirements than the WAC did, principally at the behest of their 600 lb gorillas, AFA and BYU. Will that make it more difficult for TCU to sign those last minute risks than before?

Just noticed on rivals that we now have three 3 Star Recruits
Derrius Bell, Josh LeRibeus, and Bradley Haynes. Just food for thought

Yep watch this over the next few days. I noticed now that they have also bumped up two TCU recruits too-Greg McCoy as predicted and an All District MVP OLM(a rarity) in Spencer Thompson. All these players got the offers to prove they deserved the bump-and as they should I think Rivals is responding to that.

TCU's Olson got upgraded too as predicted. I'm getting pretty good at this. I predicted 2 of the 3 TCU upgrades and the 2 SMU upgrades were on my Stallion's Wish List before they signed-as was McCoy in fact.

DeVon Bailey is rated 5.6 and 3 star. That could add another if indeed he signs with SMU. I don't know Youri Yenga is really small if considered a DE. If you consider him a LB then yeah he MIGHT be bumped but I doubt it because he wasn't really highly recruited. Julian Herron has the offers to deserve a 3 star even though he's been off the market for over a month but he seems to below the Rivals radar. If he really runs anywhere close to a 4.33 like Emfinger claims then he really could.

My guess is they won't keep the little guy from Hutto. Oklahoma and others are on him now.

Your guess? Do you have ESPN? Or do you just not think TCU should get a 4 star. I've heard that a lot of schools have been going after him but the legitimate sources seem quote him as sticking with his decision. Kerley has been well known to every school in this part of the country since last year's football season. Hell OU is doing so poorly they are desperate so I'm sure they are still after him.

FYI, here is a more detailed breakdown of TCU vs SMU. As far as TCU getting some big name recruits, keep in mind that TCU tends to play a little russian roulette with these things - they pick up kids who had early offersx from major programs, but the majors turn away because of grade issue, and TCU just hopes they can get their act together. The strategy has worked well in the past, though.

This data is strictly from Rivals; I don't have access to insider TCU info, so I didn't add insider SMU info.

Category | TCU | SMU |
--------------------------------------------|
Multiple BCS offers | 8 | 4 |
one BCS offer | 2 | 3 |
mulitple peer offers | 3 | 3 |
one peer offer | 1 | 2 |
no peer offers | 5 | 6 |

Our recruiting class this year is a little better than in years past, with the major improvement at the bottom. Last year, 10 out of our 16 recruits in Rivals had no peer offers. Two years ago, 19 out of 26. Three years ago, 14 of 19. Of course, some of those folks include Sanders, Hudman, Mapps, Romo, Hawkins, Haynes, Lindley, McCray; people who have made an impact. But we are making a major step up this year in the fact that we are getting players that other people know about rather than just relying on Bennett's ability to find diamonds in the rough.

Just thought that might provide some insight for people. We don't have huge names in the class this year, but as a whole I would say it is a much better class than the last two years.
