Postby overcusser » Wed Jan 24, 2007 8:01 pm

From the Forth Worth Star-Telegram site:

Colleges where the most state and national top players are going
Texas 18
USC 9
Texas A&M 7
Florida 6
LSU 6
Baylor 5
Notre Dame 5
Oklahoma 5
UNT 5
Oklahoma State 4
South Carolina 4
TCU 4

Where is SMU on this list????? Where do the Ponies rank?

This is why Top 100 lists are bogus. Why don't you list below all the offers those 5 North Texas players had? ___________

No Dodge is doing a great job considering 90% of the players were committed when he took the job. He's getting some guys who performed really well in High School-he may have 6 A;;-Staters now. . Got a 3 star RB the other day. Stole a QB from Nevada-but most of these guys are leftovers. Got a TE who was going to visit Iowa St. Got Bron Hager who reportedly was on standby for Baylor's last ciommitment. Not bad under the circumstances. Next year we'll find out if he can outrecruit somebody. But I will say at least I've heard of almost every single NTSU recruit which is unusual. The lack of any response by a Mean Green shows that they really haven't outrecruited too many top programs for thier recruits though.

I went to the FWST website and looked for their recruiting list. I couldn't find it. I know that they publish one weekly this time of year but it wasn't on their website. Can someone provide a link please?

Of all the commits at UNT I think Bron Hager is the only one who had an offer from another Div1 school (Baylor). FWST has Jason Martinson, Justin Padron, Jordan Scoggins and Marcus King in the state Top 100 all of which are going to UNT, but names few have heard about outside this area and are no where close to the Top 100 in Texas.

the worst lists are always the local newspaper preseason lists tthat are never changed to reflect the actual recruiting interest of the players. The local lists are often also influenced by the local high school beat writer who knows high school football not necessarily what college coaches are looking for. I really don;t believe any of the kids are among the Top 300 kids in the state-maybe Top 250 at best if you are talking about highly recruited players. Also I think that Bayloe offer is real questionable because he was saying that if he wanted to wait until the next weekend he might get an offer. Maybe not. If he was a definite take they would have taken him.

As Stallion mentioned, Bron Hager did NOT have an offer from Baylor. He was told that if a couple of safety prospects didn't commit, he would then receive an offer. Both prospects (Clifton Odom, Jr. & Elliot Coffey) wound up committing.

The only reason the whole conditional offer thing was thrown out there in the first place is because the Baylor DC Bill Bradley and Hager's dad were both UT alums and had played for the Philadelphia Eagles albeit at different times. If Hager had actually been offered and committed, there would have been a lot of upset BU fans.

Wow, relax. If we got into which offers were pulled or conditional on all recruits we would drive ourselves crazy. Bottom line he was considered by BU and of the rest of the UNT commits none were seriously considered by any Div1 programs and that was the point.

Believe me when UNT publishes his profile it will be that he picked the Mean Green over the Bears. Everyone plays those games so relax, UNT just bettered you this time. :D :D :D

I agree that there are all kinds of shades of gray where offers are involved and media guides take all kinds of liberties when saying their recruit picked their school over school A, B, and C.

However, a conditional offer or more accurately, a contingent offer is not an offer in my opinion.

If a school like SMU, for example, offers a kid early with the stipulation, if you commit to us early, then you're in...if you don't accept our offer now, we may withdraw it. The kid then decides not to commit at that time and see if he gets other offers or whatever...

Under that example, then yes, the kid did receive an offer and it is accurate to include that on Rivals, Scout, the newspapers, media guides, etc. That one happens all the time. He could have been a part of SMU's recruiting class if he had accepted the offer when it was extended.

But if Bennett says to a kid, we really like you but we've got 2 prospects ahead of you that we've already offered. So if one of them doesn't commit to us, only then will we offer you....that is not an offer unless the scenario plays out and the kid actually receives an offer.

The kid may tell the press that he was offered, but it wasn't the case...he didn't have an offer, so he couldn't commit.

The Star Telegram has programmed it's "spell-check" to delete any reference to SMU... and not just in the sports section... unless it is bad news or controversial (library).

We know we've got a top recruiting class because of our strong ties to DISD, the Texas High School Coaches, and that famous East Texas Pipeline developed so meticulously by the current football staff. We're up there, baby.
