Ex-Cowboys LB Nguyen interviews for UH post

By MICHAEL MURPHY
Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle

Former Texas A&M All-America and Dallas Cowboys linebacker Dat Nguyen visited the University of Houston today and interviewed with coach Art Briles about joining the Cougars' staff.

Nguyen, who retired from the NFL last year, toured the football facilities and the weight room. Nguyen, who in 1998 was named consensus All-American, Big 12 Player of the Year and won both the Bednarik Award and Lombardi Award, would fill the void created when safeties coach Clay Jennings left for a similar position at Baylor.

If hired, Nguyen would coach inside linebackers with the staff being reshuffled to fill the open safeties position.

I would hate to see a class guy like Dat, end up at a place like Houston.

Ya wouldn't it suck for him to break into coaching with the best team in CUSA?

UH won the thing, but they were not the best team in the conference. With Kevin Kolb gone, they won't even be close.

I think you need to take another look at their roster. Best talent in the West by far-hands down. If they find a QB should be better than last year by filling roster with 9-10 Division 1A Transfers almost all highly recruited.

You are probably right. We were a lot better just had bad luck again this season.

UH was by far the best team in the west and yes they do lose Kolb but I believe it was their running game that put it in us last season. Also, their offense involves a lot of short, quick passes (like ours) which makes it a whole lot easier to replace a QB as opposed to a team that runs a pro style offense.
