TCU's Coach Call In Show

Post by DiamondM »

Note the location of the call in show? Fitting huh? Wonder if the purple Trans Am will be up on blocks out front with the rusting washer and dryer?

Another note, I plan to call into 103.3 to place an angry complaint that is long overdue. It appears that as a part of the contract to be "The Home of TCU Athletics," TCU placed a condition on the contract in exchange for the several millions of dollars it paid espn radio. That condition: do not mention SMU in your local sportscenters. Saturday night, the local guy noted that a TCU running back and an Oklahoma running back (?!) were candidates for the Doak Walker Award. Any mention that a running back from Doak Walker's alma mater is also on the pre-season list? Nope. This is not the first time. Several times during football and basketball season, the sportcenter would mention games going on in the metroplex and would leave SMU out completely.

that is complete nonsense. You really think a news agency would agree to that. Please!

OK, I understand being aggressive in promoting your football program, and TCU has done a good job of that, but contracting to have SMU unmentioned is low.

I wouldn't worry about it....

KESN in DFW posted a 1.0 composite quarterly rating for the first time in its history this summer. Here is their composite ratings for the past year...

Fa '02: 0.9
Wt '03: 0.8
Sp '03: 0.9
Su '03: 1.0

i.e.- no one is listening so don't let it bother you. If it does bother you, just listen to a different station... problem solved.

You guys have proof of this? Sure would like to see it.

I just can't believe that a radio station would agree to a stipulation like that but hey, I couldn't believe that the biggest sports scandal in Texas history happened at dirtybaylor either.

Good luck in Lubbock-

Diamond m - I would think TCU has other things to worry about - You are starting to sound like the Froggies who think the major Big 12 teams are in a pact to keep their recruits off the Top 100 list.

I heard the same announcement you did. I was pissed they didn't mention KK, but hey, they also didn't mention the Dallas Burn score, which they were doing at the beginning of the season. The Burn suck, and nobody goes to the games because of it, so now their scores aren't mentioned.

I am sure that when SMU starts winning, they will get talked about on the local stations a lot more often.

Okay, guys.
Seriously.
More people talk about TCU on this board that on TCU's own board. If everyone at SMU that continues to blame TCU for everything would actually turn that dismay into day to day support of all things SMU, we would FINALLY be on the right track.

If you want to complain about ESPN radio, you should think of a better argument. Coach Bennett was on there this morning around 10:45 AM for quite sometime. Both guys that interviewed him (Newy & Brian) encouraged fans to visit "fantastic" Ford Stadium and complimented Coach Bennett and the direction of the program. Surely that wasn't part of the conspiracy you speak of to keep SMU off of the airways? Their staff was very complimentary of SMU on the air. Wish you ALL could have heard it.

Just support the Mustangs in all that you do. There is no need to talk bad about opponents, other schools, conferences, etc. It doesn't help our cause. Use your energy in a positive manner, and always bashing TCU, Tech, Baylor, etc. is not getting us to the top any faster. Buy tickets, go to games, support the activities SMU hosts. That's the only way to get ahead.
