I will say that to me my educated impression after following this for years is that the bottom of the class recruits that TCU is getting are not as good as in years past. It appears that they have somewhat run out of steam-and that they are stretching a little bit at the bottom of the class. But they could be waiting on the last minute academic issue recruits or the Need-to-be-placed"recruits to get the "bad news" from Big 12 schools who can not take more than 1 non-qualifier per year. The top part of the class is very good as usual-plus they are bringing in a transfer from Arizona Braylon Broughton who was a 3 star last year out of Dallas Hillcrest.

Damn, that kid's a beast. Any idea why he's leaving 'Zona?
It's always a shame to see a perfectly respectable young man end up at Froggy High!

TCU has 3 in Rivals Texas 100. No other non-bcs school has more than 1 and only six total so far for the good guys (that includes SMU).
I would never suggest SMU & TCU should work together, but I support both teams and go to several Mustang games each year. I know a lot of TCU fans knock SMU and vice versa, but bottom line we are in the same boat and the waters out there are not pleasant at all. It is tough to keep up with the spending, etc going on in Div1A so I am proud of both schools for hanging in there and competing as best they can.

JasonB wrote:FYI, here is a more detailed breakdown of TCU vs SMU. As far as TCU getting some big name recruits, keep in mind that TCU tends to play a little russian roulette with these things - they pick up kids who had early offersx from major programs, but the majors turn away because of grade issue, and TCU just hopes they can get their act together. The strategy has worked well in the past, though.
This data is strictly from Rivals; I don't have access to insider TCU info, so I didn't add insider SMU info.
Category | TCU | SMU | --------------------------------------------| Multiple BCS offers | 8 | 4 | one BCS offer | 2 | 3 | mulitple peer offers | 3 | 3 | one peer offer | 1 | 2 | no peer offers | 5 | 6 |
Our recruiting class this year is a little better than in years past, with the major improvement at the bottom. Last year, 10 out of our 16 recruits in Rivals had no peer offers. Two years ago, 19 out of 26. Three years ago, 14 of 19. Of course, some of those folks include Sanders, Hudman, Mapps, Romo, Hawkins, Haynes, Lindley, McCray; people who have made an impact. But we are making a major step up this year in the fact that we are getting players that other people know about rather than just relying on Bennett's ability to find diamonds in the rough.
Just thought that might provide some insight for people. We don't have huge names in the class this year, but as a whole I would say it is a much better class than the last two years.
Thinik Orsini is making a difference? I do!

Thanks HFV. Your posts have always been thoughtful and civil. I hope that very soon SMU is on the same level with TCU again and that our rivalry will once again become close and fun...for both of us. Hate and love are two strong emotions and ultimately not that far apart.

FWIW--The list was updated yesterday (1/29) and TCU and SMU are in the same positions in the rankings as they were back on 1/23.
