It appears that Coach Doh is going old school and making the players run yo yos when a teammate turns the ball over. Can't say I blame him. Turnovers are not usually just the guy making the pass, they include the guy receiving the pass and other players being where they're supposed to be. Also, it makes the person making the turnover receive a little peer pressure to hold onto the ball.

Going old school????? Look up old school in the dictionary and Doherty's picture is in there............I think in a couple of years, no team is going to look forward to having to play us..................

Turnovers are the key to this season. This team is not void of talent or the ability to beat any team in conference except for Memphis if they could just learn to play smart. They would have wins over Southern Miss, UTEP and Tulsa if they weren't turnover machines.

I sure wish Brian Morris was still on the team. Nobody pushed him around inside.

Our big guys need to play big boy basketball. Keep the ball high, don't bring it down into their mid section, and keep those elbows out. No one is afraid to go try to knock the ball away from Ike, Bamba, and especially Rack. Have them eat a few elbows and they'll stop trying to knock the ball out. I wish we would do the drill the Mavs started with Damp - filling a ball with water so that doesn't rotate true or the old fire tennis balls at them and make them catch them to improve their hands............

I don't understand why he's not getting minutes. I have been impressed with his ability inside the few times I have seen him on the court. Lord knows we need someone that can handle the ball inside and actually make a layup.

Friar - I agree --
I wish Fall and Rack would not even dribble and keep the ball up high and layup or pass it right back out.

Has anyone had successful play with a pick and roll this year?

Agreed. He also has the best footwork of any of our bigs, which is impressive for a true freshman. He seems to be an excellent passer as well with possibly the best court vision on our whole roster. I really don't understand how isn't getting more extensive looks in games. Doherty must still be seeing things in practice holding him back from being a rotation player for us.

Our guys do bring the ball down a lot. I feel like Bamba and Rack bring it down because they aren't sure enough of themselves and their upper body strength to keep the ball high. They completely take away their height advantage by bringing the ball down (something Ike is sometimes guilty of as well). Like you said, elbows do wonders. Just for some perspective on how often our bigs turn the ball over:

Turnovers per 40 minutes: Bamba 2.89, Rack 3.01, Ike 4.46, Killen 5.02. So as much as some posters may want to crucify Killen for his turnovers against pressure D, the post players are just as much, and in some cases even more, to blame.

If Killen is truly as smart as Doherty claims, then he wouldn't attempt half of the passes he tries to make. He continually feeds the ball into impossible situations.

Doherty talked about him in his radio show. I missed the answer as I was having to talk with my wife during the show, so I don't know what he said. Does anyone remembeer?

He also said he liked how Epps and Dez were playing lately. He said that the reason their playing time had been limited was their fitness level early in the season.

"Old School" practices are usually practices that hurt physically when you mess up. Since I played high school basketball in the 60's and 70's, and I remember surviving drills like that including the peer pressure part, it would appear that is old school coaching. Not too dissimilar from Marine basic training where the whole platoon gets punished because there's one sub-standard Marine in the group who gets to eat ice cream while the rest of the group goes on physical training manuevers. The gomer usually gets the crap beaten out of him by the rest of the group that night.
