Comparing our recruits with what is on our roster....

Postby JasonB » Wed Feb 07, 2007 11:24 am

There seems to be some interest in how these recruits rank up, so I thought I would do some analysis. This information ONLY takes into account what we have from Rivals - I am disregarding stuff SMU has told us about additional offers to recruits in the past, so that it is an apples-to-apples comparison.

QB - Turner is probably on the same level as Rhodes. We were the first to offer, and got some post season accolades.

RB - I am assuming Wilkerson is a RB? If so, he would rank behind Martin, and ahead of Mapps, Dorsey and Turner, none of whom had offers reported by Rivals.

WR - Burley is our best recruit, Haynes would come in second. Kennedy and Robinson would vie for third, ahead of Givens, because even though Givens was a 3 star, he only was offered by UTEP. So our WR class is very good.

TE - Flemming is obviously behind Chase, but ahead of everyone else.

OL - Brooks, LeRibus, Lilly, and Tennison all have better offers than any other linemen on the team.

DE - Assuming Robinson will go here, he is behind Muse, but probably on the same level as Jordan Johnson, so a good recruit. Goldthorpe and Czerniak are on the same level as Dizer and Hughes. So, one good recruit.

DT - nobody yet. Leonard would help and be as good as anyone we have.

LB - Yenga and Herron are better recruits than anyone we currently have on the roster.

CB - Bell is as high ranked as a recruit as McCann. Definate improvement. Dennis would be nice as well (not confirmed yet).

S - Bailey is easily our best recruit.

So, even though I think we missed at DT, I think this recruiting class would definately have to be deemed a singnificant upgrade overall, especially at WR, Saftey, and on the OL.

If Bennett can take our past "diamonds in the rough" and make it into a .500 conference team, this class should upgrade the team significantly...

Rock Dennis is confirmed -- he's already enrolled.

The guys who are enrolled already -- Rock Dennis, Ryan Leonard and D.J. Emerson -- are part of the Recruiting Roundup that will be up tonight.

What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.

Played a little of everything in high school, but recruited as a cornerback -- extremely fast (has been clocked in the 4.3s).

didn't we supposedly have nearly an entire recruiting class that all ran 4.3 in the 40??? I'll bet he's fast, but not that fast
