UH/SMU - Twin Towers?

Postby MustangIcon » Wed Feb 07, 2007 11:44 am

Apparently UH thinks we are going to use a Bamba/Rack twin tower approach against them tonight. The plan to counter by using Tafari Toney, a bigman they signed from San Jac last season. I think he only played limited minutes against us last game if at all.

I am not sure why they would be worried about us going twin towers on them. Even with a small lineup we cannot match up with UH man to man which allows them a field day shooting 3's over our zone. With Rack, one of our slowest footed players (not meant as an insult), and 7 footer Bamba fall on the floor together we absolutely would have to play a zone. I would think that plays right into Penders and UH's game plan of jacking up 30+ 3's.

The key for the Coogs to win is to make a lot of those jacked up 3s. However, I believe that your three pt defense is superb.

What's been the deal with Dez Willingham this year? I expected him to be one of the team's leaders.

He's 5'7" that is what the problem is. He has the talent to be a great player but is lacking the size to be really effective. It is extremely difficult for him to get open shots over much taller defenders and defenders can block his shot from behind whenever he does get passed them.

They also forgot about the one at Houston. Methinks he may be being sarcastic at our expense.

Our 3 pt defense I believe was tops in CUSA previous to the Memphis game, so I think he was being legit.

Athletic teams like Memphis and UH will always destroy this roster if they are hitting from the outside because we cannot play man against them. Of course, if UH has one of their 8 for 30 from 3 pt land games, we have a great chance to beat them. They live and die by that 3 ball.

Do they have some sort of genetic mutation? Was it brought on by exposure to radiation?

UH jacked a bunch of long range threes, some of which went in. It just seemed like SMU was getting some bad bounces and balls were rimming out and the team couldn't get in a rhythm tonight. Give some credit to the different looks and D that Houston threw out, but I thought some things just weren't going SMU's way tonight and stopped any momentum.

Effort was definitely there...they played their hearts out...We showed improvement in several phases of our game. Their guards could shoot and hit from way "down town". Patience with Matt as he develops his program. He has what he has as far as talent. The roster is somewhat limited until that time comes.

Under-statement of the year...

Prefacign my statement witht eh comment that I know very little about basketball technique (I am a baseball star!) I saw the Houston game last night ans saw two glaring problems: We cannot handle the ball very well at all, and our big guys do not push people around under the basket.

But, I am entusiatstic about our future with our new coach!

I've been there a million times, writing late at night, but damn I laughed hard at this. Are you typing with your elbows again?
