Postby ALEX LIFESON » Sat Feb 10, 2007 11:11 pm

They looked and sounded great, with EVERYONE there. Student attendance, was fare to spare.

Having the full band there was great. Difficult to tell how many students were there since so many of them sit in the regular seats.

I think it was high school day, with many highschool kids mixing in.

You are correct. It was the Third Annual Mustang Band Experience. This is a program where high school band members are invited to spend the afternoon as a member of The Mustang Band. They arrived on campus about 4:00, rehearsed with the band, had dinner with the band and then performed at the basketball game. I hope the high school members had as much fun this year as in the past. I wasn't able to attend this year because of a touch of the flu.

I am glad you noticed what a FULL Mustang Band should be and can be. Just like the rest of SMU athletics, the band will make it back and the numbers are growing.

First.. they sounded great.. but I have one question..

Ghostbusters?

A much needed replacement song is in order.. especially when we're getting some momentum and the crowd is starting to get behind the team.

More upbeat please.. ?

This is what happens when non athletic department personnel try to dream up athletic event atmosphere. Ghostbusters is a mandate from higher up, not the band directors choice. This would probably work if everyone envolved knew what to do. The cheerleaders, pom pom dancers and fans are suppose to yell 'GO MUSTANGS" in place of Ghostbusters, but nobody knows. We will just let it die like Mighty Mustang Thunder, our mighty 4th fight song.

A higher up means a major donor, and out of respect they band played the song.
