Yep, that's right Pony Fans. You heard it here first - last November - that we will not even match 6-6 in 2007. Phil is on the out and out and who's wants to go with him? You can only pretend for so long, folks, and we have tried too long. 1st and G from the 2? TURNOVER on downs! Up 10 in the 4th? LOSE by ten!! SHOULD be 10-2 in 2006? 6-6 with out a bowl bid.... SIGN THAT COACH UP AGAIN, baby. Oh please, Orsini.

We need a change in the worst way - and I say we start by hiring Mike Thomann as DC in '07. At least, then, we can hold off the late charges when Phil puts the offense in reverse come 4th quarter. Until April, goodnight and good sleeping...not likely for ponyfans...

Dear Mr. Nation,

I dont even know how to respond to someone who cant comprehend my original post. Please use only statements that I made when commenting back. I am pretty sure if you reread my post, 23 or 24 times, you may realize that no, I am not saying that this (feb) is when you heard it first from me (refer to the comment about november - and, more specifically, it was right after PB blew the 4Q lead at HC) and also I cant seem to find any statement that suggests or refers to consequences in the event that we dont improve. Thanks for engaging that brain of yours. Perhaps you are a former Mustang QB from, say, 2003 and have suffered a sack too many, but probably not.

In closing, please refrain from replying to posts that you fail to understand. Go Stangs

Do you have any good reason for believing we won't make it to 6-6? Which game were we winning by 10 in the 4th and then lost by 10? Wasn't Houston... it was tied going into the 4th. Was a 27-24 SMU lead going into the 4th. Wasn't Tech, NT, ECU, UTEP. So what game are you talking about? Do your research before you start bad-mouthing. I'm just as disappointed as the next guy about how last season turned out, but we have the opportunity to win C-USA this year, whether you believe it or not.

The idea that SMU might win CUSA in 2007 is a complete joke.

We have a pretty descent shot. UH loses their starting qb (which is pretty key with their type of offense), Rice won't be as good with Magicman Todd Graham, UTEP will be w/o Palmer and Higgins and are spastic, Tulane should barely be a speedbump, and we can beat Tulsa considering the last time they beat us was by a fg.

We also return our starting qb, bada$$ recievers in Columbus Givens and Emmanuel Sanders, and our back 7 of the D should remain solid with McCann, Hudman, and Lindley returning. Also forgot to add Special Teams with Morstead and Henderson returning

Returning to be coached by PB. We need a bloody ST coach. I'm pretty sure the special teams folks would agree.

I Disagree!

Postby Argyle Pony » Mon Feb 12, 2007 8:58 am

Put it down...8-4 will be our record and Bennett is with us longer. At 6-6, he is gone....We have to have faith that the new redshirts will boost our experience since they scrimmaged against out offense and defense all year. I may be wrong or right...only time will tell.

Not so fast, if we make a bowl at 6-6 and fire PB that would be like shooting ourselves in the foot. That would be the worst thing we could do. We get national attention by breaking our bowl drought and fire our coach? What does that show the nation? That we don't want to make a bowl.

Now if we end up sub-.500 or 6-6 without a bowl I see PB's job in jeopardy again, but Orsini will not fire Bennett if we make a bowl game, even if it is at 6-6.

I think CUSA has 6 bowl tie-ins this year, so if last year is any indication 6-6 would get us a slot in the N.O. bowl. I am not sure what Orsini would do if we went 6-6 and got a bowl invite. I think it depends on how we went 6-6. If we lost 6 games by blow outs. Maybe, he'd be gone. If we went 2-2 OOC and 4-4 in conference with wins over Memphis, Tulsa, Tulane and Rice and close losses to UH, UTEP, UCF and USM, then I'm not sure. I think one thing, if we lose to UNT this year, Bennett may not see the end of the season.

Didn't Turner say in an interview that he didn't want to make a bowl at 6-6 and that no team should?

OK, I am predicting 8-4 this year, mainly because of the returning players for SMU and and the loss of players by the competition as previously mentioned by SMUballboy, and didn't even mention that TCU doesn't have a QB yet so that can easily be a win.

I do disagree with him about the defensive back 7 being solid, that to me was a weakness last year, but it seems Bennett adressed it with his signings with 2 freshmen possibly being able to start or get significant time in the defensive backfield.
