What is Justin Willis? "Dumb [deleted]". ![]()
I guess you didn't like the 158.42 passer rating (10th in the nation), 26 TDs (10th in the nation), 67.4% completion percentage (8th in the nation), and only 6 INTs. I'd say that's pretty good for a freshman. Now obviously he doesn't need to fumble as much as he did last year, but give respect and praise where it is deserved.
I'll have to agree on this one. Willis may not be Russell, but at least the QB poisition is the least of our concerns for the first time in a long time. Dave Bring Back Men's Track
Willis is obviously a very good QB and we are very lucky to have him at SMU. The way I read the Jamarcus Russell comment was that its not like he was some awful nobody kid that Vic transformed into an NFL QB, not as a slight towards Justin.
Not too far off actually. 15 fumbles, 6 lost. (5-1 in Rice game) Kurt Warner-like numbers. Need to cut down on those. I think some of that will come with maturity, though. Learning to get rid of the ball when there's a ton of pressure, etc..
Justin also had a couple of those insane "oh no!" interceptions too. Lets hope, he works hard to correct these things.
Okay, this particular round of sarcasm is not necessary. C'mon, Stallion, even withstanding fumbles, he was able to move SMU's offense much more consistently than anybody has been able to move it since who, maybe Ramon Flanigan? And if Villoria is able to accomplish gains with Willis, then all the better. It won't change his height which I know bugs you, but it may improve his ability to chunk it long. And he doesn't have to be Jamarcus Russell to be exceptional for SMU. If our O-line and RBs show up, we can get away with moments of brillance and a LOT fewer fumbles since he won't be running for his life all of the time. I thought we were talking physical strength. Everybody else can talk about how great Vic is and what monsters he is going to build but I can't. Willis fumbles because he is physically weak. I was leading cheers in the hope that the great Vic Viloria will solve that problem and make Willis into the next Jamarcus Russell-6-5, 245 pounds of man.
Man, those were 8 great years...
Willis fumbles because he is physically weak? Wow Stallion, your so smart! I thought it was because he wasn't protecting the football when trying to gain an extra yard instead of just going down, which I figured was just inexperience not knowing what to do. But now that I know, thanks to you, that Willis is physically weak I guess the new strength and conditionaing will take care of all that and Willis won't fumble at all this year, even if doesn't learn how to protect a football in the meantime!
I wonder if that's how Tiki Barber cured all his fumbling problems, by benching 50 more pounds in the weight room!
Willis broke a lot of tackles. Not a Vince Young by any stretch of the imagination, but was okay in that department. He fumbled many times with poor ball protection technique (running like it was a loaf of bread without tucking it in or holding it up too long before throwing). With improved technique, quicker reads, and improved line help, those numbers should go down. Remember at skill positions, you don't want to sacrifice flexibility.
You officially are swimming past the buoys with this one. Willis fumbled because he wasn't taking care of the ball, not because they were stripping it from his fingers. That wasn't physically weak, it's a lack of experience thinking that his O-line was more adept at pass blocking than they were. Although if Viloria can create another Jamarcus Russell, I'm okay with it. He is a MAN. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
