last minute trip to Lubbock...A fortunate change of plans has me thinking about road tripping to Lubbock now. I assume buying tickets will not be a problem, but does anyone have any advice on hotels, best route to take and stuff the wife might like to do or see along the way?
Re: last minute trip to Lubbock...Hotels: Can't really help you there since I still have family in the area. There's a Day's Inn on 4th Street that's walking distance to the stadium, but your only chance there is probably for a late cancellation.
Route: From the north side of the metroplex, take 380 to 114 and go west. I'm further south, so I usually go out 820 to 199 and then hit 114 just this side of Jacksoboro. Then just go west, young man to Seymour, Benjamin, Guthrie, Dickens, Crosbyton, Idalou and into Lubbock. Stuff the wife might like to do or see along the way: hmmmm..... Well, there is the 6666 Ranch Supply house in Guthrie; some fine shopping there. Otherwise it's the Dairy Queen in Seymour, the Sonic in Olney, or the random Allsup's along the way. I think the Buddy Holly Festival is this weekend in Lubbock, so there'll be lots of live music down in the Depot District. For dinner I'd recommend Cagle's Steaks (west of town on 4th street), 50 Yard Line (south side of town around Loop 289 and University), or you might see my group at The County Line (north of town not far from the airport. Have a good trip if you go. [This message has been edited by Techsan81 (edited 08-28-2003).] I was born... on the Llano Estacado.
Re: last minute trip to Lubbock...Thanks, Techsan, mighty kind of you.
Re: last minute trip to Lubbock...Glad to hear you are coming HF. Be sure to come by the SMU tent for some free grub, just outside the stadium. Starts a 4.
Re: last minute trip to Lubbock...Just to make sure, I was being sarcastic with the 6666 Supply House, but it is kind of a neat place to stop. It literally is where all the ranch hands buy stuff and has a real 1860's general store kinda feel to it with a surprising variety of stuff. My wife bought all our Christmas cards there a couple of years ago.

Re: last minute trip to Lubbock...Nacho, what and where is the tent? Do you have to be in the Mustang Club to attend?
Thanks, snake Go Buster.
Re: last minute trip to Lubbock...Hope to see alot of Mustang fans there. And, I'm with you Nacho, as long as there is no OSU style meltdown, should be a lot of fun.
Re: last minute trip to Lubbock...Hoop Fan - If you haven't already, you should try to make a trip out there to see a basketball game. I guess we play SMU at Moody this year (?... haven't seen our non-conference schedule), but if you get a chance, the United Spirit Arena is a fabulous place to watch a game.
It's not as "intimate" as Moody (which I love, btw), but it is a great arena. I was born... on the Llano Estacado.
Re: last minute trip to Lubbock...I haven't been to a hoops game in Lubbock, I hope our series continues long enough to get a chance to see a really good Mustang team take on a Bob Knight team out there. If Bryan Hopkins is healthy this year, we might just surprise you all in Dallas this year with a much better game.
Re: last minute trip to Lubbock...HoopFan: you might want to make a call to the TT Athletic Office before the weekend to see if tickets are still available. I'm hearing the game may be a sellout. And hotels are at a premium...first weekend before school and a lot of parents are there to make sure their kids get settled in. Plus there's the football game. And, as one of the Techsters said on another post, there's the Buddy Holly Festival. I'd hate for you to drive all the way out there and not have a place to crash! And not have a ticket!

Re: last minute trip to Lubbock...I haven't called the ticket office yet, but will. I thought I had read a Tech fan say that they didnt usually draw that well for openers against non-Big 12 opponents, especially on a holiday weekend. I hope I am not in for a rude awakening. As for hotel, I already figured that was an issue, so I plan to drive halfway back to Dallas after the game and catch a room somewhere along I-20 around midnight.
