If you're a Cubs fan, 20 years ain't nothin. I mean the last time they won the World Series was like 100 years ago. Three fingers Mordacai Brown was pitching. But, I envy you getting Soriano. He is hands down the most exciting player in baseball. I saw him play a lot last year for the Nats. A guy who can hit 40-50 homers and steal 50 bases and in hitter friendly Wrigley should do great. He hit a bunch of homers at RFK which is not that hitter friendly. As I said, I grew up a Senators fans who only broke .500 once in the 19 years I followed them and then they traded away their best players and moved to Texas. At least the Nationals were exactly .500 their first year in DC and stayed in the pennant race into September. This year they'll be horrible. No first baseman until July. Only one known starter. So, again, 20 years, nothing. After all, I'll bet many on this board are Rangers fans. They haven't won a pennant since moving to Texas in 1972. And I'm partly to blame, since I cursed them for moving from Washington. Curse of EastStang. Now if that only worked on the Horned Frogs....

Rather, I support them whole heartedly, I love them more every day and I do whatever I am able to do to make them better. But I realize I can not do it all myself and sometimes it just takes hope, understanding and the belief that things will improve. The bottom line is that I made a committment to my job, my wife and my children and my school, and I can not justify walking away from any of them. Unconditional.

Now, that said, I hope MM65 has that feeling for his school (SHSU?). I know that SMU was adopted, but were any of my children adopted they would be equally loved. I know you love your step children as if they were biologically your own. That is how I would look at it. Be mad, be sad, toot your horn and ring your cow bell, but walking away from your team is not not an option.

I donate to teh Mustang Club and I do so because I love my school, period. I do not berate anyone who does not donate because that is their decision. My donation does not make or break the coffers, but it makes me feel good that I am supporting. More importantly, however, in my humble opinion, is the support that is given by attending and cheering for the team we all support. I know for the most part this is choir preaching, but it should be a given that if you are a fan of SMU, you will attend any and all events you are able, and you will support the team at all times. Can you criticize? Sure. And you should when things are going awry. But I just do not see quitting as an option. Sorry.

Amen brother.

Except that he did not say he was quitting on SMU or even going to stop coming to games. About all he said that his eyes have been opened and he is no longer a sunshiner and no longer has any expectations of this athletic program. Welcome to a new and less frustrating existence..

He also said, "...I finally decided that S.M.U. athletics is – overall – a product that I am no longer willing to invest my money and time on." As far as going to games, he said "...IF I go to games..." not that he would.

I agree with you Jstang for the most part. When I read it the first thing I thought was that he had adopted the Jstang philosophy of SMU athletics. But the dramatic manner in which he has chosen to belittle the program and having read his "sign off" post, I interpreted that he had quit on SMU as both a supporter and a fan. I have never gotten that impression from you under your guidelines for SMU athletic watching. I never have to wonder if you will be at the game, I only wonder whether or not you will be using my seat.

Okay, PK, but it's not like you to jump to conclusions. I'll bet he's still out there and if the mustangs are doing well he'll be enjoying himself. Only now, when the mustangs are not doing well, he'll be taking it in stride.

Good riddance.

I had the unfortunate experience of sitting near this guy at more than one game. Maybe it was because his kids weren't around, but I've never heard such a tirade of filths and fouls in my life. And that was when he was on board with us. We may need fans, but we don't need bad fans.

I guess it's easy to drop a team when you have no affiliation with them. When times get tough, there's nothing really keeping you with that team.

I guess it's different for me. I'm an alum. This is my school. This is my team. I'm stuck with them and they are stuck with me. I got here after the DP, so I have no idea what it's like to win (except for 1993 MBB), but I am still here.

Best of luck to mr quitter.

Lighten up. This is college athletics and you do not choose to root or not root for your school. I will always be a Mustang fan. Not always happy with the product or the committment, but always a fan. I think now is not a good time to jump ship. We have some people in place with reputations at stake based upon their success. This new regime will succeed or they will resign. They will not sit back and watch this thing fall into oblivian. If they do indeed leave without success, than look out below.

Jstang, does this mean I am no longer the Big Toe?

Bighorse, I'd be interested to know how and why became a SMU fan in 1989 of all years.

doesn't care who wins.

Well said and I personally think its a great day to be a Mustang. And I'm shopping for a new cow bell. But then again, I'm a glass-half-full kind of girl. All of the crankiness around here makes me laugh.
