Well said and I personally think its a great day to be a Mustang. And I'm shopping for a new cow bell. But then again, I'm a glass-half-full kind of girl. All of the crankiness around here makes me laugh.
There is only one truly cranky person named MM65. Stallion and the like are true SMU lovers and will not rest until we return to the glory we deserve. They are at every game, yes they [deleted] (99% rightfully and honestly true) but like I said they are at every game.

Well, I still disagree with your low expectations philosophy -- at least the way I understand your stance. It seems to be free of hope. Our job as fans is to hurt when we lose. If you're not hurting after a loss, you haven't invested anything.

Jstang, does this mean I am no longer the Big Toe?
Of course not. That avatar is you.

That's because the sunshine has blinded you to the difference betwen hope and expectation. I have the former, just not the latter. And it's "no" expectations, not "low" expectations.

MM65 has been a devoted fan for years. He was with the Ponies during the worst of the worst (0-12). He has contributed money, time, energy and emotion to SMU. If he has chosen to remove his money and emotion from SMU, one can only suspect that the reason is sufficiently profound. When one devotes so much emotion into something, and then loses that emotion, one can only suspect that there is a reason which is deep and difficult to endure emotionally.
I often think of the high expectations I had before dates long ago in my youth. Always filled with anticipation. Then the date didn't turn out quite as I had expected. And often there was some emotional lose as well. But, being the fool that I am, I continued dating knowing full well that many of my anticipations and desires would go unfulfilled. I invested a lot of emotion and a hell of a lot of money into what was often less than desired results. Sounds kinda like being a Mustang fan these last 20 years.
Being a Mustang fan now in some respects is like dating in my youth. I look forward to the season. I look forward to the games. I look forward to the Blvd and seeing all the wonderful people that participate in the pre game festivities. It is my choice to spend my money, time, effort and emotions on the Mustangs. And each of us has his/her reason for supporting or not supporting a team. It is personal to each of us.
I wish MM65 well and hope he does return to games and eventually returns as a devoted fan. And I also hope to see all my pals on the Blvd next Labor Day to whip the TTU Sand Aggies behinds back to that dustbowl hellhole of which they are so proud.
And yes, I am also a Cubs fan.

Reminds me of the Richard Pryor skit when he gets to the door and gets just a kiss. The rest of the skit would get me banned and of course I wouldn't do it justice.

Nope. I never *expect* to win. Never. I don't expect the Mavs to win next time they play. To do so is to both disrespect your opponent and harvest satisfaction prematurely.

Often, the emotional reaction to a stimulus causes a violent physical response. A very common physical response to an emotional distress is retching and vomiting. Aren’t the complexities of the human being fascinating!
