Nope. I never *expect* to win. Never.

Sounds like we're on the same page then. We both hope the Mustangs win, but neither expect them to.

Yes. Like I said in another thread, there are several who have been building caricatures and straw men. Those types are also generally good at building legal arguments, not that any people in particular come to mind.

And don't forget, by the way, that zero expectations goes both ways. You don't expect a loss either. That would be disrespecting your own team.

Okay. And also don't forget that with no expectations can come no disappointment in the results. Now, let's sing Kumbaya and pal around some.

On another front--you don't like lawyers. I get it. I don't know what you do for a living, maybe you're a garbage man or a janitor or some other glamorous job befitting your SMU heritage. But whatever it is, if it provides for your family I won't put it down. That's another difference between me and you.

Oh come on JT, lighten up...nobody likes lawyers...as is shown by the fact that lawyer jokes are second only to aggie jokes. Your reputations precede you...as illustrated by your avatar. Damn, we all need some one to not like. :D

Easy for you to say. Everybody likes the preacher's kid. The fact that you're also an engineer is just gravy.

I must repectfully disagree. Everyone likes the preacher's daughter. Who cares about his son??? I know that was a sexist thing to say.

Now we're getting into semantics way beyond the scope of this board. But it actually is possible not to *expect* to win and not to *expect* to lose but to still be disappointed when you do in fact lose.

Apologies on the lawyer comments. Having been raised by a lawyer and SMU law prof -- and having gone to law school myself -- I felt I had earned it. I am certain, however, that removal of the soul is one of the first orders of business for most law schools. Let's just say I had visions of public service.

Hey, life as a PK was not that great. Talk about being under a microscope...if you did anything the least bit suspicious, it got reported to the "preacher" in nano seconds. As for the engineer part...we are the Rodney Dangerfield professionals of the world. :?

Not for me.

I wonder if I ever graced a class taught by your law prof parent? Teaching in 1992-1995?

This whole string sets up the old lawyer, doctor, engineer and the guillotine joke. But alas, its too long for this thread. The punchline is of course the engineer saying "if you loosen that bolt just a little, it'll work just fine".

I always heard that as an Aggie joke.
"He was quoting the Bible, Revelations. 'Behold the pale horse.' The man who 'sat on him was Death... and Hell followed with him.'"

"You tell 'em I'm coming... and hell's coming with me!"

Perhaps I am the problem? For various reasons, birthright, choices, kids' choices, etc., my favorite teams are:

1. Chicago Cubs
2. SMU Mustangs
3. Chicago Bears
4. Vanderbilt Commodores
5. U.S. Naval Academy Midshipmen
6. Chicago Bulls
7. Northwestern Wildcats
8. Illinois Fighting Illini
9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
10. Chicago White Sox

One out of ten isn't bad, since the White Sox captured the World Series last year. As for the Cubs, anyone can have a bad century. So, 20 years since the DP is nothing. As an alum, not being a fan, isn't a option.
