student sectiondid anyone notice how many students were kicked out and escorted by police out of the arena...the first time the student section was packed, rowdy and excited all season long they have to start kicking people out. i do not think this would happen at a big-time program...it was ridiculous
the c-usa official said it was inappropriate language towards the memphis bench. they wouldn't let ppl in because the student section was so PACKED. if drunk guys are screamin things they shouldn't be screamin then i want them outta there, at a big time program it's so loud u couldn't hear one guy
I noticed the steady stream of ejections. I wonder what it takes to get ejected and who makes that call. I also wonder if we are more strict than the big time basketball programs with thier rabid students?
I can tell you that while perhaps it's a good idea, it can kill a program's atmosphere. As a high schooler in New Mexico, I saw first hand NM State's win over then #1 UNLV...back then the NMSU students were known to be particularly rowdy. When the opposition shot free throws, for instance, the students would count the dribbles, then hold up fluorescent dots, then if the shot went in, said in unison, "Nice shot [deleted]...."
Years later, I learned such behavior was banned, and the student section was relocated. The program fell on tough times, and only recently did they come close to filling their arena up again, after having been a regular on ESPN's Big Monday in the early 90s. From the looks of things on the replay, the rowdy, obscenity-spewing students could've been relocated to the upper corners or elsewhere of Moody and given a warning.
I almost got thrown out for calling a player a [deleted] once....at least that's what I think got the officer upset.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
the student section behind the bench was great, the student section behind the basket was weak. We are beating the #6 team in the nation and we couldn't even stand up when they were shooting free throws on our end to make noise.
Maybe one day..........
Kudos on the 3rd person reference
well said, stallion. No excuse whatsoever.
hopefully young kids weren't around, eihter Sad but a good job to the police for kicking out these low-lifes who embarrass our school ![]() BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
My first knowledge of McAllen was Wacker's SWTSU team playing in the national champ game down there. Had TCU not been caught, we'd be even further behind.
You can get creative and still be abusive. That 5'0" guard for Memphis could be called Shrimp, or Tiny, or Teeny, or Shorty. That gets the guy just a mad and yet, its not obscene. Or Hey Ref, you forgot you're white cane. Or just point out when the ref misses a call or is out of position to make a call. And of course my favorite which I cannot claim credit for, "have another donut, Tubby".
Our student part-time fans have no knowledge of the big time college game. Unless there are transfers, there's nobody on campus to learn from... What to do, when to do it, what's clever and spirited, what's cheesy and moronic. Maybe they went to a basketball game when they were in high school, but probably not. Heck, we can't even get all the students to wear RED and they've been GIVEN a red t-shirt every-other-game - which they throw over their shoulder and sport the more important PIKE letters. Can you imagine a student trying to get in a Kansas, Duke, (you know) game without the "right" shirt? The Memphis fans knew what to wear - even though we silenced them until the end. Moody COULD be turned in to a true home court advantage and our students could create a big time college atmosphere. I think, more than anything else, they just flat don't know what to do. (so they resort to junior high profanity and take bets as to who can get kicked out first)[/u][/b]
Unfortunately, the police didn't kick out the Memphis low life sitting in front of me...I was embarrassed on his behalf...a grown man quickly reduced to a tantrum throwing little boy.... Pony Up!
Try going to a Maryland game. Those folks are just abusive and not even creative. The Duke fans are creative as all get out and distracting. I went to the NCAA finals soccer game against Maryland and after the half when our goalie moved in front of the Maryland cheering section (or abusing section), he clearly was distracted. They are non-stop abusive. On the other hand Carolina fans are very polite, but cheer loudly for their team. Perhaps that's the kind of atmosphere that Doherty wants to see at our games. Polite and positive. But of course that would mean that Biff and Muffie might have to skip that facial peel session one night.
