SMU Offers Florida PG Javi Gonzales

Postby Stallion » Mon Dec 11, 2006 12:55 pm

(6-0, 170) No. 14 Player in Florida-rated 3 stars. Decided not to sign during early period and interest has picked up. Offers from SMU, Washington St., South Florida, Virgina Commonwealth, Duquesne and strong interest from Utah, BYU and James Madison. Quickness and ball handling appear to be his strengths. He is from Miami Krop High School.

Stallion, does Rivals update their star ratings on players that signed during the early signing period? Dia is listed with 3 stars. Could he go up to 4 or down to 2 based on his play this year?

There is a new article on Rivals for Javi as of 2/11/07. Anyone have access to see if SMU is specifically mentioned?

this is not from rivals but from the hometown paper who was doing an interview on the coach:

"A BIG INFLUENCE

He has been influential in the development of players like senior guard Javi Gonzalez, who is expected to sign with a Division I-A school later this year, and guard Max Groebe, who has signed with Massachusetts.

.........

Rodriguez calls Gonzalez, who is averaging 20.7 points and has scholarship offers from Campbell and Duquesne and has recently been scouted by N.C. State, a unique talent.

''People ask me to compare him to some of my past players, but he's unlike any I've ever coached,'' Rodriguez said. ``He plays the point, but he's really a combo guard and what makes him great is that sort of light switch he has where all of a sudden he can take over a game. In that he reminds me of Doug Edwards. Doug played power forward, but they both have that ability where they suddenly amaze you and carry a team to victory.'"

My bad then. I quickly glanced and saw 2/11 thinking there was some sort of recent update we hadn't already seen. Too much time staring at a computer screen for work I guess.

Gee - how could we even use another guy with quickness and ball handling. Its not like we ever have turnovers. That guy woud be on the floor in a nanosecond.
