Lou Holtz quote that made me laugh...

Post by Southland »

Lou Holtz offered this summation of the incredible challenge presented by Louisiana-Lafayette.

"Their punter is back. Their place-kicker was 20 for 20 on PATs last year. I don't think there's any doubt they have a tremendous advantage."

Holtz is the king of downplaying the role of heavy favorite. If they were playing Cisco JC he would tell you that they will probably loss. I guess he thinks it helps his team stay focused??

He always did that at Neuter Dame, too. I remember the Irish getting ready for a Navy game (when ND was favored by over 30 points) and he looked the media straight in the eye and said Navy "terrified" him and that ND had to play "a basically perfect game" to win. He looked like he hadn't slept in months, but of course, he always looks like that.

If memory serves, ND squeaked out that game by 40-something points.

While we're on funny quotes, here's one that just killed me:

Jennings chooses Pitt over Va. Tech

By Ted Allen / Lynchburg News and Advance
August 27, 2003

In the end, it was Rashad Jennings’ love of ketchup, and running the football, that led the Lynchburg Christian Academy tailback to pick Pittsburgh over Virginia Tech.
Jennings verbally committed to Pittsburgh on Monday night and will sign a full athletic scholarship in February.
"I give all the credit to God," said Jennings, who is 6-foot-2 and weighs 265 pounds but still runs a 4.65 time in the 40-yard dash. "He gave me the ability to run and I give him the glory.
"I prayed to God and He gave me a sign not to go to Virginia Tech, but to follow my taste," he added. "Everybody who knows me knows that I love ketchup, so He told me to follow my taste and to go play at Heinz Field."
