but isn't the current drought in football conference championships our longest in school history ? Not a slam, but if so we need to raise the level of expectation a good bit. Put on the sunglasses for 2007.
I miss the days of Chuck Hixon and Jerry LeVias, Tweetie Hunt and Jerry Ball.

Correction: The last time SMU was in the Polls was week seven October 21, 1986 ranked 18th in the nation with a 5-1 record commanding a whopping 175 points. Thank you Jeff Atkins and Bobby Waters.

The last time we got VOTES was in 1995 (well, I think) when we started 2-0...we got 1 vote at #25.

Does espn's bottom 10 count as a poll? If so, then 2005 was the last time we were in the polls.

22 years since the last conference championship is quite a gap. It will take lots of liquid sunshine (or is that moonshine) to make us feel good about all those lost years, or believe it will end anytime soon.

Just as depressing is the 32 season stretch from 1949 to 1980 when we won just one conference championship. As a matter of fact, if you remove the cheating years, we won just that one championship (in my birth year of 1966) in almost fifty years of football until the SWC disbanded.
Point is we've played bad football for a long, long time. The glory years ended in 1949 with the Doaker. Get over it. We're greatly improving and there's a lot to get excited about. We've got a great stadium, the incredible scene of the Boulevard, a 6-6 record, a nice recruiting class and a difference maker at QB.

We had a 6-5 season a few years ago and yet we've gone 0-12 in our shiny new stadium since then. Please substantiate your sunshine and tell us what is really different now than then.

It's time to get over the wringing of hands, knashing of teeth, and general [deleted]. We have a lot to be thankful for right now, this very moment. That's all I'm saying.
