New Undergrad B-School Rankings - BusinessWeek

Postby friarwolf » Fri Mar 16, 2007 9:39 am

New rankings are out and we are 24 in the nation - down from 20 last year. If you look at the rankings, we kick [deleted] everywhere except ratings from recruiters. If we fix that, we vault into the top 12 - 15 easily. We have the new Collins building - dedicate some room in there for plush interview offices, private areas for the recruiters to go online and work when not interviewing, set aside a block of rooms at the Lumen or Palomar at a discount rate for them, pick em up in a limo, arrange to have one of our top notch professors have lunch or dinner with them, polish up our seniors with some interviewing techniques and go kick it.

The Collins building is great and all, but it won't be used much for the undergrads. It's mainly for the Executive MBA program and Professional MBA/Full Time MBA secondary. It's a great facility though.

I've never understood why recruiters rank Cox graduates (undergrad and grad) so low. The WSJ rankings have TCU's Neeley School of Business higher based on recruiter rankings. Is it an issue of being prepared for the interview?

At least the last time I checked, our facilities are woefully behind the times and we don't do much to "sell" the recruiters when they come here. That's why I would use some space in the Collins building for the recruiters and make an effort to market ourselves and our grads to them.

Some recruiters may give low marks because SMU grads do not seem to show that hunger in the recruiting process that other schools may give. I remember interviewing a prospect at another school who showed up for the interview unshaven and hung over (complete with blood shot eyes). Needless to say he was not given an offer or a second look. Hint, if hung over, use Visene before the interview.

I am seeing quite a few resumes these days from SMU, NTSU, UTA, A&M and Tech. Cox grads are head and shoulders above the rest. In fact, I just hired one!
