This kid is from Waco Midway and signed with BU in 2006. 3 star Rivals recruit.
He just left Baylor because he wants to play soccer. He was a heckuva soccer player at Midway and Baylor only has men's soccer at a club level.
Word is Hicks didn't hit it off with BU's new WR coach Jason Phillips, so that probably made his decision even easier.
Would SMU have any interest in this kid? Based on his statements, I believe he definitely wants to play soccer, but he might still be interested in football as well. He is 6'2" 175 or so, 4.5 forty. I assume he would be eligible to play soccer right away and would have to sit out a year to play football...since he already redshirted, I assume he would have 3 years of football eligibility left.
I wonder if Hyndman or Bennett know about this kid and if either one has any kind of interest...

Last guy to play both - Daniel Hernandez - was an exception to the rule. I'd be stunned if the teams ever share a player again.

From his Baylor bio, he was apparently recruited by SMU for football. He was probably the top soccer player in central Texas with 4.5 speed but do not know if he has Div. I skill at SMU's level. I believe he played for the Ft. Worth SC. What is the rule on joint sport players as far as scholarships are concerned? Could he receive a football ship and play soccer next year while sitting out his one year football transfer? I doubt Schellas would burn a full ship on him assuming we had one to give.

If he plays both sports, his scholarship would count against the football limit, in which case there's no way the football coaches would let him skip practice to work out with the soccer team. Both sportsrequire full-time practice. Can't see this happening unless he's some combination of Freddy Adu and Reggie Bush.

he's not a kicker.. he's a WR..
There's no way another kid comes and plays soccer and football.. Schellas will never allow it again.
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.

We need another kicker like we need a hole in our [collective] head. Attempting to replace our starting kicker (either one of them) with a burnt out football AND soccer player would be a detriment to the only thing we shouldn't be worried about on the gridiron -- special teams.
They still need a ST coach, though.

No way. When Hernandez split time, he would go to a soccer game Friday, fly somewhere for a Saturday football game, then fly back for a Sunday game. As memory serves, there was one weekend where he did soccer on the east coast friday, football out west, soccer back east .... he was gassed. Neither coach would allow it, no matter what position he plays.
