Great game, Memphis played a pretty damn good game under difficult circumstances and missing Dorsey down the stretch. Memphis has more talent than the Aggies. Memphis gets no respect-they are considered just a CUSA team. But the talent base is among the best in the country.

outstanding game, I thought they had equal talent, could've gone either way really, a missed free throw here and there could've been the difference. I do think Memphis could hold their own in a better conference, certainly in the Big 12. They'll be the class of C-USA basketball for a long time, I think

Fantastic game - especially the outcome.

Already heard reports that both coaches - Calipari and Slick Billy - are considered major candidates for the Kentucky job.

I have a feeling that UK will go for someone with UK ties to satisfy the alums who control the purse. Don't know if either one of those coaches have any ties.

Good game. Glad to see A&M is done. That 1.1 second loss at the end hurt the aggies a lot, but glad to see C-USA representing.

I'll be wearing blue Saturday, supporting our conference mates in the Alamodome.

Most importantly, I'll still be motivated to use my tickets...don't know if I could've mustered the strength if I was going to have to subject myself to 30,000 Aggies

Hopefully if Calipari is offered the UK job Memphis will counteroffer with better. I don't know why any good coach would want to go to Kentucky the fans expectations are unrealistic, it isn't as if Tubby was doing a bad job, he won a title, and had them continually in the tourney. What more can you want?

Right - we're glad C-USA is represented - but if Memphis had lost, would their fans would be the first ones crying about and blaming the weak conference?

Memphis scores points for CUSA

Postby Sam I Am » Thu Mar 22, 2007 10:48 pm

The CUSA may be a one team conference but the Memphis undefeated record in conference is easier to understand after they beat the Aggies. Their win helps the CUSA standings and earns us some money too.

A few thoughts on the Memphis win in what essentially was a home game for A&M. The crowd was loud, rowdy, and heavily in the Aggies favor. I thought the refs were calling the game as a home one for the Aggies too. Seems to me like they were getting all the calls most of the game. The 1.1 seconds off the clock was the absolute correct call and I was beside myself listening to the announcers try to say it wasn't. Lastly, did anyone see Dorsey on the bench in the white tank top? That guy is just a freak. he might have the broadest shoulders I have ever seen from a basketball player.

I was sold on Memphis as soon as I saw them play at UH in person this season. It was the first time I had seen them all year (this was before either of the SMU/Memphis games) and they severly out athleted UH, which is really pretty impressive. As fast and athletic as UH is/was, Memphis was bigger, stronger, faster and just all around better. They were a dominant team all season in our weak conference and can hang with absolutely anyone in the country, especially when they are hitting the outside shot.

The 1.1 seconds was the correct call. Those bozos in the announcing booth completely blew it. The ball is knocked away bounces inbounds slowly toward the out of bounds and is not dead until it hits something out of bounds. Get a basketball out and try it. There is no way in hell that .1 or .2 was the correct call. Great call by the refs. It was obvious even in real time that at least a second went off the clock.

I totally agree and was beside myself as to why they were questioning the call. My best guess is that the long conference was to determine whether or not after the ball was touched by the Memphis player, did it bounce in bounds or on the line. Had it hit the line, .1 or .2 would have been correct.

Glad I shorted the dollar yesterday. The refs gave the game to memphis. Called a nothing foul with 3 seconds left to give the game to memphis then inexplicably knocked of 1.1 seconds to make sure they won. Good for SMU though. I wouldn't bet against Memphis. When you have the refs in your back pocket (as in the SMU game also) it's pretty hard to lose. How many free throws did memphis shoot compared to A&M. A&M would have won by 20 if the game had been called fairly but hey that's sports. You can buy a win anytime you want it. Hope the refs like their new boats. BTW keep shorting the dollar.

Maybe their fans, but not Calipari. He staunchly defends and compliments C-USA. He's got class.
