not about doh, but this is great for CUSA....Hopefully his extension will last longer than Todd Graham's.

Calipari and Memphis Agree On Contract Extension

March 26, 2007

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Tiger basketball head coach John Calipari and Athletics Director R.C. Johnson have reached an agreement in principle which will extend the coach's contract through the 2011-12 season.

"I am pleased to announce that I have met with John and the two of us have reached an agreement that will keep him on as the Tigers' basketball coach for years to come," Johnson stated on Monday. "This is my way to say thank you to John for what he has been able to accomplish at the University of Memphis over the past seven years.

"There are not many teams in college basketball teams that have won 66 games over a two-year span or have gone through an entire conference season undefeated," Johnson continued. "John continues to keep the national sports spotlight aimed on the University and the City of Memphis and for all of the right reasons. He and his staff are seeing to it that their student-athletes are graduating and succeeding on the basketball court as well."

Calipari, who has posted a record of 181-63 during his seven seasons at Memphis, is one of the winningest active coaches in the NCAA today. In his 15 years as a collegiate coach, Calipari has amassed an overall record of 374-134.

"The University has shown a continued commitment to the Tiger basketball program in academics and facilities, as well as in numerous other areas," Calipari said. "I have repeatedly stated that as long as that commitment remains strong, I will be the head coach at the University of Memphis.

"We have had a tremendous seven years, especially the incredible ride during the past two seasons, and I look forward to continuing that success in the coming years."

I didn't go, but listened. He mentioned how Calipari is good at woring the extentions.

He did specifically address the rumors. There was an internet question that asked him about it. He and Rich acknowledged there was a rumor about the S Florida job. He said that he is not going aywhere. He made a few jokes about his wife saying that if he left he would be going alone. He said he and his family love Dallas. He is paid well, he has a great house and a good school for his kids. He said that he thought it was good for SMU to have his name out there for vacant jobs since that meant he was doing something right. He is happy with the recruiting class. He joked that after he is done coaching he wants to be an adjunct professor in the Bschool.

On the recruiting class, he said that he expects them all to play and contribute with a probability that a few start. He didn't talk much about specifics of the class.
