The trick would be playing all of the away games against those same teams to set up our future schedules, because not many will do 1-1 home and home series, they will want 2-1 or home for them/neutral for the game at the Cotton Bowl.

Take a look at some of the teams Notre Dame has on their schedule next year. Duke comes to mind. I don't think they would mind playing us instead of Duke, the one BCS team in the nation that I believe it is safe to say that we are worlds better than.

I like the concept of playing one big-draw game at the Cotton Bowl every year. Reason: $$$ and we wouldn't have to worry about possibly missing the 15,000 attendance average. Also, playing a big-draw game at an event like the State Fair would increase visibility for a program that greatly needs said visibility.

Teams on my list are: Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, USC, LSU, and Nebraska.

I could not be more against the idea of playing in the Cotton Bowl again.. even for 1 game.

1. No Boulevard..
2. The idea is to sell out Ford and get tickets to the point that we can expand Ford
3. I think the city of Dallas deserves the biggest kick in the nuts for screwing up the Cowboys/Cotton Bowl deal.. and eventually losing Texas/OU. They've never helped out SMU.. and Laura Miller dumped on the GWB Library at SMU. F*** them for all I care..
4. If we start playing the big boys in our stadium.. their fans and potential television market should be exposed to our facilities, campus, boulevard and everything an on-campus stadium brings with it.
5. It's already not a home game when Tech comes.. why give an opposing team more of a crowd in what's supposed to be our home game?
6. We can't get students to come to game on campus.. attendance on the SMU side would potentially drop. Not to mention the blue hairs that won't have the stadium club.

That's my take.. keep everything at Ford.. it just makes more sense.
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.

All good points (though please don't attribute Miller's lack of leadership abilities to Dallas).

I have mixed feelings about this. I would love a game during the Fair against a big name team every year. I think the list would most likely be LSU, Tech, OU, Nebraska, A&M and maybe UT. But only if its a 1-1 and only if we get to keep the gate and our TV network carries the game. ESPN or CSTV (CBS). I think the way to play it is to offer a 1-1 to the Aggies first, then LSU, then Arkansas, then Nebraska. If UT and OU see that those schools have games in Dallas, they might come to the table, otherwise DeLoss Dodds will say no way for the Whorns. Of course they might opt to play that commuter college in Denton.

Dallas lost the Cotton Bowl, (a downtown stadium complex) when Hick's was snubbed about bringing the Rangers into Dallas. The number of games in baseball, drawfs all the football games played by SMU and the Cowboys. Once we lost the opportunity to have the Rangers, our current mayor would have had to hussle to get Jerry to move the Cowboys downtown. Interesting how our two women mayors blew their opportunities and struck the biggest blow against revitalizing downtown by blowing off both the Rangers and Cowboys.

I think the only team he owned at that time was the Texas Longhorns, not the Texas Rangers.

isnt Orisini a Notre Dame guy? they play weak opponents and they love to play at nuetral sights in big cities/fertile recruiting areas. its a no brainer. yes, you play ND at the cotton bowl or Jerry world or wherever you could get them to come.

I wouldn't call ND's opponents all that weak. From 2002-2008 (as far ahead as they have released) they have 4 games against non-BCS/non-service academy teams (3 against BYU and 1 against San Diego St.) and 3 of those were home games. Besides Army, the "weak" teams they play are usually 1-2 games per year against bottom-middle BCS conference teams. I still say getting ND to come here is a long shot at best.
