Yes it was good to see Brandon Jones make some plays. I feel better about our starting CBs-not sure about depth as several unnamed CBs were repeatedly burned. I've always thought Jones has decent closing instincts. However, late in his freshman season he struggled some with coverage. I was a little disappointed that K.J. Ellis hasn't made more of a move although I saw him make a couple of good plays late in the scrimmage. What is the coaching staff's position on Ellis?
SMU really has some kids on defense who need to get on that Justin Rogers diet if they hope to contribute next year. Adrian Dizer, Taylor Bon, Mickey Dollens of the Monkeys, Zach Thomas (if he's going to play DT like I believe I saw him at some yesterday) and others are going to have trouble playing at their weights. Dizer has already gained about 40 pounds so he'll probably get there but I'd think until then he'll be relegated to a pass game rush specialist which ain't necessarily a bad thing to have-but in case of injury he's going to have trouble. There are others like Anthony Sowe who really look slight to me and need to bulk up. Vic has his some work to do to add depth to the defense. On the other hand Patrick Handy looks noticeably thicker to me.
You forgot to mention the fact that they had 2 concession stands open this year with more than just water for sale this year. Last year only part of a stand was open and the lines were out the gate!
PPB, I'll concede that I was thinking 2-3K and settled on the high end. 1200 definitely seems too low. Even around the 20s you couldn't find any empty rows. No problem stretching out, but no empty rows either and some were in the upper deck. Regardless, there seemed to be some excitement, especially good to see interest from a lot of high school kids in the stands.
I agree, more on the 3k side than the 1.2K side. Having the nicest weather of the yaer sure made it easy to stop by and enjoy the day.
Having Rich Phillips and co was a good addition, even though some of the interviews were unintelligible and kind of goofy. An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and
