As far as I can tell, that's pretty much the book on Slater right there. Those long spirals are hypnotyzing, but then he snaps you back to reality.

Mapps has got great quikness and is a threat to break a long one every time he touches the ball. He's not going to run over anybody, but hey Martin has got 50 pounds on him and I haven't seen him run over too many people. If Martin would lower his shoulder and run with some authority he might be capable of doing what everyone out there says he can do, but I haven't seen it. Dorsey is the most complete of the three, he can do it all. I think we should use a committee approach. Use Martin short yardage situations, Mapps and Dorsey as more of our every down backs.

Spoken like someone who didn't watch the TCU game in 2005. Please, last year Martin was hurt. Dorsey, and Maps are great compliments to a healthy Martin. If you would like too I'm sure you could go on to CSTV all access and pull a couple of games from 2005 to see why a healthy Martin is the best option.

Martin banged up was still our best back last year. If he is healthy, then he is a game changer. He is the kind of back than can carry the ball 30 times a game if need be. He only gets better as the game goes along. I remember his junior year in Allen when he was injured and what his senior year was like. He started the year as a big unknown and at the end of the year he was giving SLC the scare of their life. He went from Spread back to the hammer and chewed up clock and yards all the way through the playoffs. This kid can be the real deal. Please do not tell me that Dorsey is. He is a nice back but not a major player. Mapps is not surable enough and needs to be moved into a slot position where you can get him in space one on one outside the big uglies.

I'm pretty sure Mapps has never been injured, not even in high school. Martin missed most of last season and he was hurt in high school. You tell me who is more durable?

I'm not wanting to make this a rip on Mapps thread, but come on the guy fumbles all the time. I'm glad we have him on the team, but Martin is on another level right now.

We are blessed to have a stable of good backs that excel in different areas.

Quit trashing 20 year old kids. They both bring a diversity to our team which keeps D-Coordinators on their heels.

I still think we will be alright this year. Consider the fact Willis has the hand injury and anybody who has had a similiar injury knows he should be a 100% by August. We do have three good backs in Mapps, Martin, and Dorsey. At receiver Sanders looked good and he is recovering from a knee injury. Says he will be 100% by July. Most the drops, with Z. Sledge being an exception, were by scout team players when just about everything Zach Rhodes through their way was dropped. Remmember a lot of those guys are walk ons filling in during spring and won't play next year. When the freshmen schole players show up, they won't get playing time.We also .have some talented WR freshman recruits coming in the fall and talented 6' 3" 210 FR Redshirt WR Phillip Burley who was recovering from a knee injury this spring too. With Zach Zimmerman( two long TD c atches during spring game) and all those WR prospects this fall, it seems logical we can find some guys that can catch.

I enjoyed the spring game...I was surprised by Butler's determination and drive. Brandon Jones caught my eye as a big help to our defense. Dennis will make contributions on defense. I believe our trainer will get Martin to the point that his production will be good if not outstanding...I may be wrong on this point tho...only time will tell. Rhodes speed will be a factor is he gets a chance to run and could open passing opportunities if it comes to his having playing time. Nice time on a beautiful day as we all were dreaming of good things to come. Go Mustangs!!!
