Did anyone else know this?

Post by PonyPride »

Driving to work this morning, I'm listening to ESPN and Tim Kurkjian is filling in as a guest host on Mike & Mike. Apparently he's something of a TV and sitcom nerd, and he started babbling about various TV trivia he knows .... including the fact that the four schools attended by the professor (on Gilligan's Island) were SMU, TCU, USC and UCLA.

Never watched a lot of Gilligan's Island as a kid, but I don't think I ever knew that.

I think he attended "radios out of coconuts" classes at SMU. Obviously took "boat repair" courses at TCU.

I'm sorry to say I already knew this, but from his wiki listing:
In one episode of the show, the Professor lists his academic degrees as "a B.A. from USC, a B.S. from UCLA, an M.A. from SMU and a Ph.D. from TCU" (also noted in Johnson's book "Here on Gilligan's Isle"). Aside from this, little was ever learned about The Professor's past.

No No No wasn't that an old Bob Hope line used on the show about Southern Millionaires University=SMU. I know that line was used by Thurston Howell.

This from the SMU Wikipedia cite:

Thurston Howell III (from Gilligan's Island fame) claimed to have attended SMU (Southern Millionaires University), a nickname for Southern Methodist University meant to highlight the affluent communities of University Park and Highland Park that surround the University.

Hey, why don't we just change it to that name. That'll shut up the Methodist church folks who don't want the Bush Library.

In fairness, some people just don't want the Bush policy institute.

The old Trader Vic's restaurant and bar has reopened in the Palomar hotel. Trader Vic's is a Polynesian style restaurant with exoctic rum drinks.

They have televisions that repeated show episodes of Gilligan's Island, with closed caption so you don't have to listen.
Just send 'da money.

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
