Recruiting has become insane.....

Balyor has received commits from two people in the class of 2010 (!) this week.

G- 6'0" Jamison Sterns, Waxahachie H.S.
F- 6'8" Perry Jones, Woodrow Wilson H.S.



I'll be a Senior when these guys get on campus (I dont start Baylor until the fall!). Happy to have em' at BU though!

Probably on the Sterns kid since his dad played for BU, but it is a very very long time to signing day for them. I was just saying that H.S. freshmen commiting is insane...

so how do you really project kids who are 14?

obviously if the kid who can play legit D1 when he's 14 he's a no brainer but I've gotta guess at that age, a lot of it's simply a projection. you're probably looking at a kid who's tall, athletic, he's starting on varsity but might only be making 4 pts a game & pulling down 3 boards. that kid could turn into michael jordan or he could be the next alexander wright. of course it's an arms race between college programs. seems like it would make sense to bar commitments that early.

Nic Wise committed to U of Arizona as a freshman out of Hightower HS before transferring to Kingwood. By the time he was a senior he was still a fantastic player (and back to back state champ), but not someone Arizona would have used a scholarship on any longer. In contrast, SMU would have been falling all over ourselves for the kid. They honored the commit and he was a Wildcat this past season.

Of course a player can always back off his commit, so really it seems like a good insurance policy for a highschool athlete whereas not a great deal of upside for a school that plans to hold true on its' word.

one of my friends from hs was offered a scholarship to play football at A&M when he was a freshmen... his senior year he was ranked the number 1 TE in America, and went to Texas... and i would assume football would be harder to judge then basketball

I'm pretty sure Kingwood never won back to back championships. The second one they lost to Plano HS, a team who had Joseph Fulce (Texas A&M) and state championship game mvp John Roberson (Texas Tech).
