Drugs are designed to do what their intended purpose is -- treat a specific sort of illness. When a spineless doctor is pressured by parents to give their kids drugs because there obviously must be something wrong with their kid, they do it and there begins the downward spiral.

adderall and its equivalents Rare side effects These symptoms require immediate medical assistance: symptoms of tourettism[8] aggression[7] symptoms of depression[7] it gets passed around very easily, and kids who would never touch "real drugs," have no problem taking it... What does it do to a "normal" person?
From what I have seen it is teachers wanting calm children that tip the parents to the need for drugs. It was just that case with my eldest child. And I heard that from many others. Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
nope, prescription drugs...aderol (sp?) specifically, i think The donkey's name is Kiki.

Most people take adderall when they're studying/focusing on tests or finals. There are some kids who take it recreationally, or with alcohol. I guess it's typically taken as a pill, but I've seen people crush it up and snort it too...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adderall like was said before, it is primarily abused in college as a study dependant, rather than a study aid. much of the abuse comes from college students who do not have prescription... it can be taken orally or chopped up and snorted to have a quicker and more intense sensation. it is also taken by kids who want to stay out all night partying, supposedly you can drink more while taking it...it supresses the appepitite, so a lot of girls use it to lose weight.... makes u have a different type of high where you have lots of energy and can focus better (i know that sounds contradicting)... however, it can lead to serious addictions, some psychologists have said it can be more addictive then coke, because of it's affect on the brain... Adderall is essentially amphetamine. It has a claming effect on ADHD patients but given to a "noraml" person (not someone on this board) it has a stimulating effect such as meth. Attention all persons reading this board: DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE UNLESS IT IS PRESCRIBED FOR YOU FOR ADHD. GET A SECOND OR THIRD OPINION IF YOU AREN'T CERTAIN. DON'T TAKE COKE EITHER. DON'T DO DRUGS EVEN AFTER AN SMU GAME. GET HIGH ON LIFE. PEACE OUT.
Nacho, we have a common ground. I could not agree with you more. My son takes adderall by prescription. He is incapable of any type of mental reasoning without it. It is an old joke but true that he could not spell cat if you spotted him the c and the a without it. He actually could not spell cat if you said "cat is spelled c,a,t, now spell cat." Taking then ritlin (sp?) and now adderall, he set all types of education improvement records througout his schooling. BUT, I have witnessed parents and teachers recommending it if the child is a little antsy or if the teacher is just to unmotivated to rule the classroom. These types of drugs are highly abused and I wish someone could get a handle on it. As far as meth, Arkansas is now the world capital I believe. We have whole apartment complexes near my home being torn down due to existance of a meth lab on site. People getting blown up while making, and dump sites being found all over. It is not a good thing.
Thanks for the kind words LB and I'm very happy for your son. This is a very misunderstood topic. Yes these drugs are abused but if given to the right patient they can work wonders.
Sorry if I come off as a bit of a jerk sometimes (all the time?) but mainly I am having a good time.
