Right. Instead, make bold statements that never can be proven true or false, and then scream them over and over until people get tired of arguing and assume you know what you're talking about! Stallion wrote:.... He will not get a third chance.
How do you know? Did you pick that up at a Mustang Club meeting? Or perhaps Steve-O assured you of that during one of your many conversations with the SMU athletic administrators?
Come on, counselor, it's nothing more than opinion, and like each of us, you're welcome to yours. In the meantime, I'll spend my time and energy supporting the Mustangs, not finding more reasons to put down our school and those who support it.

you can draw your own conclusions. In 5 years Mike Cavan during non-conference coached against 10 BCS schools (Arkansas(3), Kansas(2),, Mississippi(2), NCSU(2), North Carolina,) + 3 other bowl teams including a Top 10 team in Tulane. Bennett's breakout season was the easiest schedule in SMU history including non-conferences gimmees against Sam Houston St., Arkansas St. and North Texas St (ooops). We won't even get into the top 25 caliber teams that Cavan played in conference against the Wyomings, BYUs, Utahs, Fresno St., Hawaiis and TCUs nor that SMU's conference schedule last year arguably didn't have a single Top 50 team. If Cavan had coached SMU with last years schedule under present CUSA bowl affiliations I feel quite confident that SMU would have gone to several bowl games. BTW Bennett's record against BCS schools is 0-10.

Cavan had his faults. Bennett has his. Cavan got canned. Cavan deserved it. Bennett did not. Maybe he deserved to be fired. Cavan is gone and it's pointless to bring him up because for at least the next 6 or 7 months, Phil Bennett is the head coach of SMU. Might be nice to argue over something that has a point.

When a person gets older...he begins to look in the past! Cavan had his abilities. Some of his better players left. I believe the cupboard was nearly empty when he left. I liked Cavan! But this is 2007 and Cavan has nothing to do with the team this year. Let's look froward to this year and hope we have a breakout year! Some good teams...Mavericks for example...look bad some times! We had some good games last year. I loved watching the Tulsa game among others. I look froward to watching more games this year. I have ordered season tickets. I am excited about football and basketball. I have been around Mustang sports for a good number of years but don't choose to argue much about them. I see positive and negative about all coaches and programs. None are perfect or without problems. Let's get in gear to support our mustangs. Go Mustangs!
