SMU offers small, productive RB

Postby Lotus » Sun May 20, 2007 7:02 pm

There's a story on rivals about a Rosenberg (Lamar Consolidated), Texas RB named Jacquizz Rodgers. The player index says SMU has offered, but the story (dated May 8) says only Baylor and Arizona have offered, so apparently SMU's offer came recently and they just updated their database. (The way Mike Stoops has recruited, if 'Zona offers a guy, he has a good chance of being a player, IMO.)

Anyway, he's small-ish (5-7, 185), but apparently has great speed, vision, balance, etc. The story says he evokes comparisons to Barry Sanders.

Here's one paragraph from the story that is rather eye-catching:

"He has topped 5,000 career rushing yards and has put the ball in the endzone 68 times in the last two seasons. He has been described as a natural runner with wiggle and vision. Then there is his strength – 245-pound bench press and 500-pound squat."

His first name sounds like a XM Radio Station.

Hearing Jacquizz makes me long for ole Shanderrick Charles. God knows how good he could have been. I bet he was better than UT's current star.

Between rushing, receiving and returns, Rodgers got in the end zone .... 52 times as a junior.

Is that really the best he could do?

52 touchdowns in one year? Regardless of competition, that's outrageous. Sounds like the kid can run, and has a nose for the end zone.

Am I the only one to think he might have some linemen in front of him who might be worth looking at, too?

Sounds like any number of RBs already on our team...(size that is)
