That would be incredible if the petition paid off and he could play this fall. Sure would help the d-line. From what I read (from a gopher fan website...and we all know how credible fan sites are) is that Serge was "competing for heavy playing time" and the coaches had "praised his performance this spring."
I asked Coach Bennett about him last night at the Houston Coaches Tour, and Phil said "he's in." Coach had not seen the threads on Ponyfans and had no idea that we all were anxious to know what was going on. Phil also said that we are petitioning the NCAA to try to get them to allow Serge to play this fall.
...........I heard the same thing coming out of the S.A. Coaches Tour also, but was going to wait until Coach Bennett announced the signing next week...
Bump...any word on this? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

I am hearing that mum's the word on this. Nobody has any information, and if they do, they are not sharing it until August when bodies show up on campus. When somebody sees him buying books or in mess hall or in class, we know what we have. Until then, <whistle> <whistle> dum dum dee dum. We wait. that's because if the rules haven't changed-this is a period in which he can not sign a Letter of Intent. Usually August 1 would be the beginning of the late late signing period. In essence he would be a free agent until he signs. The rule is designed to keep big schools from placing a hold on players for a roster spot that might or might not become availiable in the future.
Ah. Explains everything. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
It's official. Serge is a Mustang. I guess August came early.

If he is granted his petition, my opinion of our D-line just got considerably better. Berry is a strong player...certainly capable of picking up the slack left by Bonds. We just need a Haywood-type player. Elizee would give us that IMHO. Rotate some fresh legs into the lineup every so often, and 3 of the 4 lineman are back, with a strong freshman in Justin Smart starting or backup to the open DE spot.
Give me a healthy Martin/Willis one-two punch on offense and a ready-to-go Givens & Burley, and the predictions become a little more believable. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
i totally agree, im really hoping he will be elgible for the upcoming season. without him in the middle i think we'd be in serious trouble against a good running attack.
