This is really good news. I've been thinking about 6-6 for next year ( I reserve judgment until everybody reports in August) but if Serge is eligible he could really fill the biggest recruiting hole we have had in the last two recruiting classes. Might make a difference getting over .500. BTW I've always wondered does anybody know why Serge had limited playing time last year?
Thought I read somewhere he was running second team defense with Minnesota in the spring and that he was going to fit into their rotation somewhere. Those petitions can move pretty quickly. I would think by mid-July we would know where he stands. I also depends on how diligent our compliance office was.
Wasn't he going to sign with us before Minnesota came in late? I thought he also considered Washington State at the time?
Mustangs add pair of defensive players
01:11 AM CDT on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 By KATE HAIROPOULOS and BRETT VITO / The Dallas Morning News SMU added Serge Elizee and DeMikel Shankle to its football roster. Elizee, a 6-1, 300-pound defensive tackle, is transferring from Minnesota and has two years of eligibility remaining. He's appealing the NCAA for immediate eligibility for the 2007 season. Shankle (6-0, 195), a defensive back, is a true freshman from Spring Hill in Longview. Knee injuries limited his play his junior and senior seasons. Scout.com rated him the No. 69 player in Texas before his senior season. Also, ex-SMU quarterback Eric Johnson, from Plano West, said he's interested in joining North Texas and is scheduled to talk to UNT's coaches this week. He spent the spring semester at Texas State.
Do you mean as a JUCO or at Minn? He was just at Minn for the spring, so limited time would mean during spring game? "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
Per Scout:
Stout pocket cruncher in the middle who always seems to have a full tank of gas according to one of his coaches. "His ability to go 100 miles per hour for four quarters is just unbelievable," says College of the Sequoias' Andy Siegal. Played in only six games in '06 according to the Commission on Athletics official site, logging 4.5 tackles for loss and two sacks among his 17 sticks, forcing one fumble and picking off one pass. On pace to graduate in December with three to play two at the next level. p.s. duck walk
SMU definitely was a finalist before he landed at Minnesota (I did some google-ing and found one paper up there that said he had progressed so quickly during the spring that he likely would be starting at DT by the start of the season, assuming his progress in two-a-days continued at a similar pace). And yes, he gave serious consideration to Washington State.
He definitely shores up the line if he is eligible.
Elizee - Berry: 1st Team Parham - Dollens/DeGroat: 2nd Team Leonard if you have to (would rather redshirt him). Definitely makes things better. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
So the jury is still out on whether he'll be eligible to play this year.. correct? Most likely find out in August?
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.
