Does anybody know the exact waiver or exception he is applying for. The only thing I could find was the following and I don't think a waiver is likely under this rule:
14.5.5.2.3. Discontinued Academic Program Exception. The student changed institutions in order to continue a major course of study because the original institution discontinued the academic program in the student's major. You would have to apply a pretty liberal reading of that waiver to win an appeal. The rule requires that the original institution discountinued the academic program which Minnesota did not. Elizee simply didn't qualify. Plus the rule requires that "in order to continue a major course of study" which would seemingly suggested that he had to have started the course of study. If this is the applicable waiver I'd expect under a normal reading of the rule to see Elizee in 2008 not 2007 but I think that he has 3 to play 2 so he he would have 2 years remaining.
I believe some of the blame was going under the old coaching staff. I believe the old coaching staff assured him that he would get in the business school and then when the new coaches came in they didn't deliver what the old coaches said.......not sure if that opens up any other doors, but I read that on a gopher website.

Certainly the "original institution discontinued the academic program in the students major" for him anyway.
I don't think that it is simply an issue of not making it into the B-school. Notwithstanding my lack of knowledge on UMinn's B-school admissions, I'd say that they would have known of any academic deficiency a lot earlier, no? Plus, if he had academic problems, we wouldn't be admitting him, no? See my point? Just doesn't make sense. Somebody at UMinn (my money is on the old coach or the gap between the old and new coach) screwed up something where he is concerned. Probably wasn't intentional, but it got him crossways with the B-School nonetheless. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992

The story was surrounding his National Letter of Intent and that it wasn't filed under the old coaching staff (Glen Mason). Remember Serge signed with him and then two weeks later Mason was fired. So something happend that the new coaching staff (Tim Brewster) was not aware of this. I did a google on him and the story in the Minneapolis paper said their school of business didn't accept. So there may be two things in play here.
For what it's worth, I think he will be cleared to play this year because of these things that were not in his control. Besides, we need a break.
Is there anything about signing with a coach that leaves giving you an option to transfer? That sounds familiar, but the option may be with the school.?

Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
No-he definitely signed-he played at Minnesota during the spring. He will only be eligible under a waiver of the general rule and the only one that I saw was the one I listed above. The chances of winning a waiver of that rule are always remote-rarely happens. A literal reading of the above waiver of the general rule is not promising.
Not challenging you on this, but I heard that he "definitely" did NOT sign. (I, obviously, don't know for sure either way .... just what I've been told.)
How do you know that he did?
He may have signed but if the national letter intent was never filed by Minnesota's compliance office -- and that seems to be the word going around -- then I think we're dealing with a different set of circumstances. Here. I don't think the Business school thing plays as big a factor in this as was originally reported.
